Nancy Pelosi has been reelected speaker of the House by her caucus for the next session of Congress, marking what will be her fourth term with the gavel. The caucus vote was conducted virtually, but Pelosi was approved with a voice vote.
Pelosi, 80, did not not face any challenge for her post, but she will also need to secure a simple majority — 218 Democratic votes — by the full House of Representatives in January to be sworn in again as speaker.
In 2019, several Democrats voted for someone other than her on the floor, but with a slimmer margin in the majority after the 2020 election, she cannot afford to lose more than a handful of votes.
House Democrats are holding leadership elections as they grapple with unexpected losses and the prospects for a Congress that remains divided. The GOP appears likely to maintain control of the Senate. Plus House Republicans picked up at least eight seats and several races are too close to call.
Other top Democratic leaders — Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C. — who are 80 and 81 — are also running unopposed. House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, of New York, did not face any competition for his post as the fifth-ranking leader, and was reelected on Wednesday.
Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., who ran the House Democrats' campaign arm, said she would not run for another term. Two other Democrats — Rep. Tony Cardenas of California and Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York — are vying for the position that will be decided later this month.
Top leaders and political analysts forecasted that Democrats would expand their majority — potentially picking up as many as 15 seats — but the party's disappointment instead

Shouldn’t they wait for the next session of Congress to pick Speaker ?
I don't think I can handle 4 more years of this loon...
No. Absolute best case for the GOP is 214. It is probably going to be 212.
I think we win Garcia and Valadao. Tenney is a pure coin flip and Kean is probably a bridge too far now.
Very premature. Lots to be established and finalized yet.
She’s not a queen.
She’s a catspaw.
Shes there because Deep State wants her there.
Period.
The GOP is at 209 right now.
The GOP has a 47 vote lead in IA-02 and a full recount is going on right now. (210)
There is a good lead in CA-21 and I’d put the GOP at a 96% chance of winning there. (211)
Garcia has a good chance of winning now that he won the last batch of LA County votes in CA-25. It’s not as sure as Valadao, but it is looking better. (212)
Tenney is leading in NY-22, but the absentee ballots have been terrible for her and have been breaking as much as 80% rat. Her 28000 vote lead is now down to about 3000. This is a pure coin flip. (213).
Kean cut deep into the Rat lead in NJ-07, but the rat starting picking up votes again. I don’t think there are enough votes left for Kean to win now. That would be the last shot at taking a seat from the rats and would be 214, but I don’t think we can get this one.
So best case would be 214.
I think it is more likely to be 212.
GOP prob wont gain the majority but McCarthy and the new- energy GOP should put up an alternate nominee....a democrat...and organize a Palace coup
And 3d from the WH
this is just a nomination...the actual full house vote in January....shes in trouble..just watch.
Nancy’s message to her congress critter buds..
“I know where you’ve been. I know what you’ve done. Love, Nancy.”
What sloppy reporting. Each party nominated a candidate and then the house votes next month. She was nominated and that’s all that was done. To be elected she has to win the second vote. Sloppy to the point of being false
Worse. They used a voice vote during a ZOOM meeting. At least they didn't "deem" it passed.
stupid is as stupid does.
Doesn’t matter what AOC & “The Krewe” think. Like Ernst Rhoem she will be dealt with now that she is no longer useful. Expect to see her primary’ed out of existence or her district merged out of existence. I think that — magically — all the rumored improprieties committed by Ilhan Omar will suddenly be confirmed and she’ll be ejected from her seat. The others wI’ll fall into line.
This vicious woman won’t let go of power and entitlement until it is pried away by God from her cold, dead hands. It really is kind of sick. She’s just like Hillary in that respect.
this is going to be fun to watch.
Never a bucket of water (or hot tar) around when you need one.
Good post. Thanks for the information.
I think the republicans should back AOC. Like to see that mess.
Old White Millionaires.
