Madison, Dane County ban all indoor gatherings, outdoor gatherings larger than 10 people to limit spread of COVID-19
Dane County will no longer permit residents from different households to gather indoors, no matter how many people.
Public Health Madison & Dane County issued a new emergency order Tuesday afternoon prohibiting indoor gatherings of any size, starting Wednesday at midnight. The order, aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19, also prohibits outdoor gatherings of more than 10 people and requires physical distancing. The order will remain in effect until Dec. 16 at midnight.
“This virus does not spread on its own. We spread it. Every gathering — no matter the size — is an opportunity for disease spread and prolongs the pandemic,” Janel Heinrich, director of Public Health Madison & Dane County, said in a news release. “We are hopeful that with the community’s cooperation, we can bring our numbers down and avoid more hospitalizations and deaths."
The prohibition of indoor gatherings applies to in-person sports games, competitions, group exercise classes, meetings, trainings, movies, events and conferences, which are all considered mass gatherings, the release said.
The new order was informed by data gathered during contact tracing interviews done after positive diagnoses and compliance checks, which showed that between Oct. 27 and Nov. 9 some 31% of people with COVID-19 reported non-household contacts with another case, the release said. Nearly one-quarter of people who tested positive for the virus had attended a gathering or party in the past two weeks.

Outdoor gathering restrictions are the most ridiculous. The wind blows and ‘poof’ there go the COVID germs, plus sunshine limits its strength, too.
Walking outside here in Michigan my breath is probably floating over Lake Erie within 30 minutes after exhaling.

Which means that over three quarters of people who tested positive had not attended a gathering or party in the past two weeks.
I am pretty liberal about accepting various restrictions, but I studiously ignore ANY restrictions on who can walk through my front door. We are cautious about who we let in, but we never stopped allowing partners and small gatherings of friends, and I would ignore this order as well if I lived in that county.
Ask people if they have tried to isolate themselves, and take temperatures before letting them in.
Funny how these Nazis have all settled on 10 people and put out their diktat immediately before Thanksgiving. What a coincidence...
