Sweden stages coronavirus U-turn, banning public events with more than eight people

Sweden is switching from its voluntary lockdowns with a much harsher approach that will see public events of more than eight people banned.

The Nordic country was one of the few countries that didn’t go into an enforced lockdown, and has rejected the need for masks. In October, it drew up guidelines for a voluntary lockdown in cities worst hit by coronavirus.

But in a dramatic U-turn on Monday, new restrictions will no longer be a recommendation but enshrined in law as part of Sweden’s Public Order Act, which means there will be harsh penalties. Lawbreakers could face up to six months in prison or fines.

The restriction is aimed at public events such as sporting events and concerts, but doesn’t extend to private gatherings.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven told his citizens: “It’s going to get worse. Do your duty and take responsibility to stop the spread of infection.

“There should not be social situations with more than eight people even if they are not formally affected by the law. This is the new norm for the whole society, for all of Sweden. Don’t go to the gym. Don’t go to the library. Don’t have dinners. Don’t have parties. Cancel.”

Previously, events had been limited to 50 and then relaxed to 300 in some situations, although different regions implement different restrictions.

The infection rate peaked at 5,764 new daily cases on Nov. 11, according to the Worldometers website. It also shows there are 177, 355 cases in total on Nov. 16. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 6,164 deaths among Sweden’s relatively small population of 10 million, according to Worldometers, which had peaked at 115 a day in April.

Lockdowns only drag everything out and extend the misery.

Sounds like Bill Gates made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Everyone get an antibody test. All those that are positive can do whatever they want. As the number of people that test positive with antibodies rises the number of people getting on with their lives increases.

Literally the only reason Sweden was allowed to chart their own course in the first place, was because TPTB knew that their government would someday declare defeat and join the Global Reset.

One wonders what sort of blackmail would actually work in Sweden?

Evidence of the health minister once having told a racist joke?

For crying out loud, their deaths peaked at 13 a day recently. I’m sorry, but for a country that size, that’s puny. It is the fate of all humans to die. And how many of those that died were young people that did not already have one foot in the grave?

I can say that because I’m 67 - a part of the “high risk” group.

I think I remember reading they have achieved Herd Immunity.
Did they attempt Herd Immunity or not?

They finally succumbed to “do-something-ism” which will have zero effect in the long run except to put many people into economic distress.

RE: Did they attempt Herd Immunity or not?

The problem is hospitals are being filled up BEFORE herd immunity was achieved. If all the cases were mild that would have been no problem.

You are right. I have a feeling this is in response to threats from other governments and the EU regarding such things as trade. If memory serves Sweden is very dependent on imports. There may have also been threats against exports. It would not surprise me.

We are both the same age and in risk group. But without co-mortalities I think we will be fine.

I live in Germany and the folks have drunk the cool-aid.

If you look at this link (https://www.destatis.de/EN/Press/2020/11/PE20_452_12621.html) and scroll down just a bit there is a revealing chart of the average numbers of deaths/week averaged for years 2016 to 2019 given in blue. The red line are deaths/week for 2020. If you look all the way at the bottom of the graph you can see that CRAZY-1984 is nothing. I follow the CDC and their charts are telling me the same thing. . . this is the seasonal flu but this year dangerous if you are old and already sick.

People are assuming that only severe cases are hospitalized. I think that people who are at high risk for a severe course and who test positive might be getting admitted as a precaution so that they can be under observation and receive more aggressive treatment if necessary. Much like what happens if an older person goes to the doctor for a bad cold an gets a diagnosis of pneumonia. Since that is often deadly for the elderly hospital admission even before a full blown case manifests makes sense. It could be happening with COVID too.

This speaks to an important part of this thing. It is not just a US thing. The whole world has gone mad.

Obesity is a huge factor but just because you are skinny doesn’t keep you protected.

I had a skinny distant relative have to be hospitalized with it and then had a stroke when he got out...i think it was a few days later. Might be related to COVID or not. But he was in the high risk age group and of course had controlled high blood pressure. HIs wife got it and is fat...but wasnt hospitalized.

You just have to decided what is your acceptable risk and live your life as best as you see fit.
