Trump eyes digital media empire to take on Fox News
Axios ^

Posted on 11/12/2020 5:29:35 AM PST by springwater13

President Trump has told friends he wants to start a digital media company to clobber Fox News and undermine the conservative-friendly network, sources tell Axios.

The state of play: Some Trump advisers think Fox News made a mistake with an early call (seconded by AP) of President-elect Biden's win in Arizona. That enraged Trump, and gave him something tangible to use in his attacks on the network.

"He plans to wreck Fox. No doubt about it," said a source with detailed knowledge of Trump's intentions.

With loyal viewers and longtime dominance, Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch said on a Nov. 3 earnings call:

"We love competition. We have always thrived with competition. ... Fox News has been the number one network, including broadcast networks, ... from Labor Day through to Election Day."

Here's Trump's plan, according to the source:

There's been lots of speculation about Trump starting a cable channel. But getting carried on cable systems would be expensive and time-consuming.

Instead, Trump is considering a digital media channel that would stream online, which would be cheaper and quicker to start.

Trump's digital offering would likely charge a monthly fee to MAGA fans. Many are Fox News viewers, and he'd aim to replace the network — and the $5.99-a-month Fox Nation streaming service, which has an 85% conversation rate from free trials to paid subscribers — as their top destination.

If Trump started a media empire that was like the OLD Fox he would make more money than being a hotel and golf course owner.

How about free Trump TV in all airports !

Totally agree, Comcast is a 200 billion dollar company.

Ever managed a contract for carriage on a CATV system?

Thought not. You have no idea how it works, the costs, licensing fees, or marketing expense.

Go back to pining for your slaves. In this case I certainly know more about than you.

You are chasing a feeling. That’s a bad business plan. But since you only worked at something, and never “made” anything you wouldn’t know that.

Now come back with something “pithy” like calling me a troll or something.

Pay close attention to who would own such a network and whether it could be taken over by the wrong people. We don’t need another version of Murdoch’s lefty sons, or a big leftist company like Disney, taking control after Trump has to retire.

You guys think the world is like a Mickey Rooney movie: My Dad has a barn—let’s put on a show.

The issue is that the market is small, dwindling every day, and notoriously cheap. It’s a targeted market if you can keep your expenses down. I can point to Newsmax. Fine market—but they still simulcast a radio show in the two hour afternoon block.

Do you think they do that because there is a ton of money in that business model?

You guys are all about trying to keep each other energized. I understand it. But the media world and especially TV/Internet programming is a business with shitty margins that are trimmed every day.

This IS an area I’ve a little experience in. Buying media companies in the 20’s is akin to buying an airline in the 1990’s. It sounds good until you have to put jet fuel into empty planes.

Like many, many Freepers you view the world in a simplistic transactional way. Not everything is about money. Folks like you who ONLY think with their wallets are easily duped.

He needs to do a real network!!!

Buy 15% of Comcast, 30 billion, that would allow control of the board along with likeminded shareholders who are probably 50% of the outstanding current stockholder/owners.

Yeah...its about ideas.

You might want to review the birth of every political movement ever in its context.

And you call me simplistic...that is hilarious.

Tell me any business where you can get investors to support a “concept.” Take that to your local bank and get a loan for it.

The premise is not to make money. The premise is to send out propaganda. Like Newsweek, CNN, and the rest.

Clearly Trump is not in it for the money. Clearly Fox commuted suicide for political reasons and money boobs like you can’t understand that.

this is the same play book that the dems used four years ago to get people to not take trumps run for presidency seriously. now it is being used to get Trump supporters to think trump has no path to victory in the courts. I smell desperation.

The state of play: Some Trump advisers think Fox News made a mistake with an early call (seconded by AP) of President-elect Biden's win in Arizona.

FOX also made an intentional call NOT TO CALL FLORIDA WHEN IT WAS CLEAR FLORIDA HAD GONE FOR TRUMP.

Liberal 'elites' at FoxNews are as manipulative and phony as the Morning Joe creeps...

Fox, since the kids took over, has not been the conservative network they were. Should Trump buy a network, hire back Liz Wheeler!!

Partner, there are so many folks that do not even watch the Fox News Channel anymore.

I followed the lead of a fellow Freeper who told me to follow OAN and OAN has been so much better than Fox News.

BTW, Fox News needs to get rid of Brett Baier and Chris Wallace to start with and they are not going to do this.

Even Brett Baier make a call to Rush Limbaugh to ask him if he would call the election for Biden. What a fool Brett was on this garbage.

I have not had cable tv, since the disastrous ending of Game of Thrones!

I get all my stuff over the internet, or via my am/fm radio.
