President Trump has told friends he wants to start a digital media company to clobber Fox News and undermine the conservative-friendly network, sources tell Axios.
The state of play: Some Trump advisers think Fox News made a mistake with an early call (seconded by AP) of President-elect Biden's win in Arizona. That enraged Trump, and gave him something tangible to use in his attacks on the network.
"He plans to wreck Fox. No doubt about it," said a source with detailed knowledge of Trump's intentions.
With loyal viewers and longtime dominance, Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch said on a Nov. 3 earnings call:
"We love competition. We have always thrived with competition. ... Fox News has been the number one network, including broadcast networks, ... from Labor Day through to Election Day."
Here's Trump's plan, according to the source:
There's been lots of speculation about Trump starting a cable channel. But getting carried on cable systems would be expensive and time-consuming.
Instead, Trump is considering a digital media channel that would stream online, which would be cheaper and quicker to start.
Trump's digital offering would likely charge a monthly fee to MAGA fans. Many are Fox News viewers, and he'd aim to replace the network and the $5.99-a-month Fox Nation streaming service, which has an 85% conversation rate from free trials to paid subscribers as their top destination.

Just buy OANN and Newsmax and merge ‘em. That would be a great start IMO.
Can Axios be trusted?
No need to buy them. Create a broadcast, cable, and internet service and host them.
Buy CNN from ATT and rename it the Conservative News Network.
Both great ideas.
He needs to do a real network!!!
Just buy OANN and Newsmax and merge em. That would be a great start IMO.
This.
The future is streaming. Also, if he can get just 5 or 10 million of his followers to subscribe to his MAGA channel, he will be making incredible amounts of money. $60 Million to $100 Million a month with very low startup costs.
Purchasing a cable channel or creating a new one will be very expensive and then you have to sell ads. That will be a probably for Trump as no sponsors will want to be associated with him. A Premium streaming channel solves that particular problem easily it’ll be ad free.
I would bet both OAN and Newsmax would offer Trump an equity stake in the network, rebrand it and start up the digital subscription side......
We’ll know in the next year how bad Fox News will be hurt if/when some of their key anchors leave.....Tucker, Laura, and Sean, throw in Maria Bartiromo and Lou Dobbs and you would have a formidable line up for either OAN or Newsmax.
Fox, since the kids took over, has not been the conservative network they were.
Should Trump buy a network, hire back Liz Wheeler!!
FoxNews was never good.
The enemy was misidentified, perhaps deliberately so, to mischaracterize this as some kind of right wing infighting.
The enemy is not JUST (the current version of) Fox News.
It is much broader than that.
The enemy is all the Fake News.
"Undermine?" More like underground! They wouldn't last a season.
He’s been unhappy with FOX for a long time
I remember begging the anchors we love to leave FoxNews 10 years ago and start their own network. NOW they can.. with TRUMP.
With these and a few other conservative resources and outlets, what Trump will “bring to the party” will not only provide formidable opposition to the near-monopoly the well-worn media and social networks have established, it will crush — absolutely annihilate — Rupert Murdoch’s duplicitous FOX network (as the MSM and Democrats/Socialists have no use for FOX) and will p*ss off “all the right people”.
“Just buy OANN and Newsmax and merge em. That would be a great start IMO.”
...I disagree. Give people choices. All the power of one network would be no different that the Executive Branch acting alone.
Yeah - do it
