Republicans expand super majorities in Kentucky legislature

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Republicans expanded their overwhelming majorities in Kentucky's General Assembly in Tuesday's election, dominating rural races and fending off Democratic efforts to gain traction in more suburban districts.

Most GOP candidates benefited from the top of their statewide ticket, with President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell notching lopsided wins. Republicans solidified their control of rural districts as Democrats saw their ranks continue to dwindle.

With some races still too close to call, House Speaker David Osborne said the GOP ultimately could pick up 13 seats — six held by Democratic incumbents and seven open seats previously held by Democrats. That could give the GOP a whopping 75 seats in the 100-seat House, a veto-proof majority that would allow them to make life difficult for Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear.

KEYWORDS:
Looks like the Senate in Kentucky will be at or around 30 Republicans to 8 Democrats, and the House at or around 75 Republicans and 25 Democrats.

$100 million at least was spent on the U.S. Senate race by the Democrats and their allies and their candidate did not even get to 40% of the vote and appears will lose by more than 20 points.

Great! How about a recall of Comrade Governor Beshear?

What were the results in other state houses? Important for redistricting.

State legislators love letting the governor make decisions on how to handle the contagion. Absolves them of any responsibility and blame.

Kentucky is the core of the future Free States of America
(FSA).

The rats can take their $#!th0le utopias, raise green taxes
900% and make toll-free unicorn lanes on every freaking highway if they want, but why should free people pay for it?

Their GOP government should act like it then. They should do things which would put them into direct political conflict with Washington and Fed.gov

They can start after Joe and the Hoe are inaugurated.
Rand Paul should run for Governor in the future.

Let Thayer propose a series of bills to prevent the current and future Governors from shutting down Ky, alongside bills dedicating 1% Ky GDP to unemployment and tax relief. Then defeat Lil' Andy's vetos.

Meanwhile Cameron re-opens invests with Steve Beshear's group of convicts, none of whom want to go back to Eddyville.

Then run the Cameron-Thayer ticket in 2023 at Andy, while convincing Booker to attempt to primary Andy with St. Bre's money.

Cameron-Thayer win 2023, while Lil' Andy barely avoids prison.

Then Cameron takes Mitch's seat in 2026 and Thayer ascends to Governor.

"Rand Paul should run for Governor in the future."

LOL that's very 1955, as the last Ky Senator to eventually demean themselves as Governor was no less than super-racist yellow dog Democrat Albert Benjamin "Happy" Chandler Sr.

Not the ballgame that's played anymore...

How did this lefty clown get voted into office?

Republican Governor Bevin tried to drain the swamp a bit and actually fix Kentucky's very broken pension system (one of the worst in the nation financially). This ticked off the teachers.

Looking at the numbers, Bashear didn't get any more votes than the Democrat in the last election where Bevin won, but Bevin got a lot fewer votes. So apparently, the teachers couldn't bring themselves to vote for a Democrat, so they just didn't vote at all and Beshear won by 4,000 votes.

I am under the impression that Kentucky’s legislature is either weak or the Republicans that control it are cowards. They have allowed Beshear to run rampant with these Covid restrictions. I emailed my state rep and state senator and the rep returned the email indicating more or less they couldnt do anything until the assembly meets in January. The ueseless state senator didnt even bother to return my email and she is also allegedly a Republican.

Foot-in-mouth disease of Bevin. The final nail of final nails was his call for tolls in Northern Kentucky a week before the election, which shifted enough votes against him to turn counties light blue that would have been deep red. That was probably just enough to make up the margin.

The GOP swept all of the other state races in convincing fashion in that election. It was actually the best showing for the GOP in state races in modern history, yet the top of the ticket lost.

Yes - it is very weak and it cannot call itself into session. They may propose a constitutional amendment this coming session to change that.

Right now the R KY legislature has been useless against little king Andy jr. as a screen door on a submarine. Other than the AG you wouldn’t know there was a Republican in Frankfort.

Useless? Possibly. Powerless? Yes.

The legislature in Kentucky cannot call itself into session. It can meet only in its designated meeting times, or when a special session is called - and who has the authority to call that special session? The governor, of course.
