It seems third world countries.can supposedly do it.
Why can't we?
It’s about being in line before the end of the voting period. No reason for one hour extension.

A tiny but reliably Republican county. They can vote as long as they want.
See post #5
The last reliable system of voting were the big mechanical voting machines made in Jamestown, New York. The ones that weighed around half a ton.
The company went bankrupt in the 80’s and eventually everyone ran out of spare parts for them.
About 16,000 votes out of 9 million in Texas for 2016.
In Harris County we HAD a reliable voting system but the DNC Finance Chairman of Texas was sworn in by a Democrat majority on commissioner’s court for a brief period to run the election for the county. He’s spent 4 times as much on this election as has been spent in previous year.
And he broke the voter information site.
Hence “tiny”. :-)

I loved those old voting machines. They opened up to create their own private voting booth. Throwing the giant lever on the machine closed the fabric curtain. Then after you pushed the levers to register your vote, throwing the lever the other direction tallied the vote, reset the levers and opened the curtain.
It was a pure mechanical system that didn’t even need electricity to work.
Yep.
Red county.
Keeping voting places open isn’t going to help the Democrats. They put all their money on mail in votes. It is the GOP that is going to the polls and voting!
Little if any waith around Austin and the outlying areas.

I think Iraq’s vote with the purple finger was probably the most honest vote ever. But I guess it still wouldn’t stop the finding of truck loads of votes after the fact.
If we did that we would find trunks full of purple fingers.
IIRC, they were taken out of service well before they ran out of parts due to someone figuring out 1) a way to rig them and 2) a mechanical exploit at the control panel (user input side) that would get them to roll all the votes it recorded to one party/candidate. They were hastily removed, at least in the Tennessee area I happened to be in.
I don't trust any politician.
Never have really....
But not being sure of your vote being counted and legitimate ....is something that needs to be fixed.
Polly won't get fixed...because of the corruption in politics',,,
Which was great up until someone figured out how to rig them.
The exploit was publicly revealed in 1978. There’s a reason the company went bankrupt.
