As the Virus Rages, Some Are Convinced It's Too Late to Stop It

COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho — The congregation of Candlelight Christian Fellowship gathered around tables sipping coffee and grapple with theological questions.

With a potluck dinner, no masks and plenty of shared hugs, the night felt like a throwback to the pre-pandemic era except for a noticeable exception on the stage: The lead pastor, Paul Van Noy, was addressing the congregation with the aid of supplemental oxygen, piped into his nostrils from a small tank.

About a month ago, Van Noy, 60, was discharged from a hospital in a wheelchair after a COVID-19 infection brought him to the brink of death. But while that scare ravaged his lungs and rattled the church, it has done little to alter the growing sentiment among many people in northern Idaho that the coronavirus cannot be stopped and efforts to contain it are doing more harm than good.

“I think we just open up and we just let it take its course,” said Nancy Hillberg, 68, as church members mingled after the service. “Just let it be done.”

Amid a record spike of coronavirus cases and the final days of the presidential election, President Donald Trump and his administration have expressed increasing helplessness at containing the virus, focusing instead on improvements in survivability and trying to hold the economy together. While it is a theme welcomed by many of the president’s supporters, it has proved alarming to health officials who are encountering rising resistance to their calls for unity in combating a pandemic that has already claimed nearly 230,000 Americans and threatens to take many more.

Governors around the country, particularly Republican ones, are following the president’s lead in resisting new restrictions against a virus that has powerfully persisted despite lockdowns in some areas over the spring and summer.

If it was like the flu we would have stopped counting and have a reset for the new season.

It always was too late to "stop it".

It has to burn it's self out.

“against a virus that has powerfully persisted despite lockdowns in some areas over the spring and summer.”

According to the scientific method, this would seem to render the lockdown hypothesis invalid. Mandating lockdowns is not following science.

Smallpox had been raging for 3,500 years before we stopped it. Polio is on the verge of being eradicated as well. A widespread vaccination program halts the virus. Thanks to the efforts of President Trump, we’re getting there in record time.

Smallpox would like to have a word with you. Except it can’t, because human beings eradicated it from the face of the Earth.

Such a bullsh!t article.

“About a month ago, Van Noy, 60, was discharged from a hospital in a wheelchair...”

EVERYONE discharged from the hospital leaves in a wheelchair.

It was always about the election

Oh so true. After the election it's going to be all about how to require the state tyrants (governors; lesser politicians; unelected bureaucrats) to give up their self-anointed seemingly omnipotent powers and return to our Constitutional and formerly "unalienable" rights. However, bullies like these don't give in easily without the use of force ... high 'n hard, no-nonsense force.

I'm hoping Trump can lead us out of this ... I think that if anyone can, Trump can.

America is in the process of self inoculation, self immunization.

Those who are at risk and get the virus risked and lost. A few will die during the self immunization.

[It ran through our household of five. Felt crummy for 5 days - one day felt like garbage - but pretty much a ho-hum event. ]

Out of curiosity, did you get tested? Was it covered by insurance, or did you end up shelling out?

Have these people forgotten FLATTENING THE CURVE"?

Probably the average American has but the MSM and dems have deliberately, subtly, changed it from death rates to number of cases, and ignored the plummeting death rates.

And now, instead of flattening the curve to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed, the talk is of eliminating the virus altogether.

I remember during that George Floyd production, there was not mention of the virus, not even a peep, for the two to three weeks they milked it.

As the Virus Rages, Some Are Convinced It's Too Late to Stop It

The first thing I ever heard about COVID-19 was that everyone would eventually get it.   The lockdown was only to prevent the first surge from overwhelming the hospitals.

"Zinc and vitamin C and D at least until the vaccine’s ready."

Yes. And exercise. And sleep! Then you've done all that you can do. Don't worry, and go about your business. Best ways to avoid getting sick.
