Democrats turning out at lower rates than Republicans in Miami

Democrats are turning out at lower rates than Republicans in Florida’s largest county, Miami-Dade, after Democratic nominee Joe Biden's campaign pared down field operations because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Campaign operatives told Politico that door-to-door efforts to persuade voters to jump on the Biden bandwagon were at a standstill and without funding -- despite record-breaking fundraising hauls by the campaign -- for months leading up to the final stretch before Election Day.

“We did not get the kind of funding for different vendors who would do that type of work until late in the campaign,” Rep. Frederica Wilson, who represents Miami’s heavily Black congressional district, told Politico.

In Miami-Dade, 152,964 registered Republicans cast early ballots, leading Democratic voters, 146,371 of whom turned out early to the polls, according to state data on Friday.

Meanwhile, Democrats who mailed in their ballots in the county nearly doubled that of Republicans, 208,803 to 116,040.

To make up for the lag in voter-canvassing efforts in the region, Biden's running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, is hosting an event this weekend to rally young Black men to vote while the NAACP is getting involved in Black churches, which are planning "Souls to the Polls" events on Sunday, according to Politico.

Florida -- the nation's largest swing state -- is considered a must-win for either candidate hoping to sail to victory on Nov. 3.

Biden and President Trump held dueling rallies Thursday to drum up support days before the election, with Trump hosting a Make America Great Again Rally in Hillsborough County in Tampa, while Biden appealed to voters in deep blue Broward County, which boasts 310,000 mostly Democratic Black voters.

Although Black voter turnout is up statewide, pockets of the state have seen lower turnout from Black Democrats than their Republican counterparts

I was in the south end of Miami-Dade County for 4 weeks from 20 Sept to 20 Oct: I saw ONE Biden bumper sticker, and that on a union-worker car from out-of-state. Even going down into the Keys (except Key West), I’d see dozens of large Trump yard signs and flags for each single lonely Biden-Harris sign.

Now, I did not drive north in Palm Beach county up the coast north of Miami. But they are NOT getting the Miami lower-end economic vote. And they’ve killed the NY-NJ-Mass CV-19 voters.

I know some folks around here think the Democrats will find the ballots that have not been cast and miraculously make them appear in time to count.

Good news—the Democratic cheaters are looking for those “missing” ballots in all the wrong places.

I know where they are.

They are torn up in pieces, one Democratic household at a time, and are now sitting in the local garbage dump.

C’mon, cheating Democrats, go to the dump.

It is where you belong!

In my opinion, voting by mail is a challenge for a lot of people.
I opened my ballot weeks ago and have not even looked at it because I know there are a lot of down-ballot races (referendums, judges, etc.) that I need to read about, which will take time and effort. I will get it done, but I’m sure there are many out there (lazy young kids, overworked suburban women, I’m hoping) that won’t.
Sure, they can skip all of the other races and vote just the big ones, but just reading through it all is a time-consuming task.

Somehow I question whether she - not being a he but a she - is the ideal spokesperson for that mission.

I voted early in person in PA - and was surprised at how few down ballot races there were.

And no referenda.

Several decades ago I lived in CA.

I had a job that required a lot of travel so I always voted absentee.

It was a big advantage for dealing with all the referendum questions—allowed me to take my time and make sure I understood each question.

I agree—states like CA who have referendum questions on the ballot may see significantly decreased total votes this year.

In my opinion, the USPS has been a dumpster fire for a while so this bad service is not just something that popped up overnight.

Here’s my conspiracy, tin foil hat take on that. What if this was done purposefully in order to, after the close of the polls, claim that they had found ballots not delivered and still sitting in the P.O., (seeded with a large batch of manufactured ballots). The Dems then demand in a law suit that a judge order these ballots to be counted since “disenfranchisement” and all. The ballots would then be processed without verifying that the signatures match or that they are duplicate votes.
