The U.S. Postal Service has faced scrutiny for making major operational changes in an election year when many more Americans are mailing their ballots because of the coronavirus pandemic. But new statistics show the USPS is doing a worse job of delivering the mail on time, raising concerns that some ballots may be delayed.
The Postal Service said Friday that its on-time delivery rate for first-class mail slipped to 85.6% for the week ended October 16. Thats down from nearly 91% over a three-month period ending in June, noted Paul Steidler, senior fellow with the Lexington Institute, a public policy think tank based in Arlington, Virginia. He described the latest data on the USPS delivery record as awful.
A drop in timely mail delivery could pose a risk for voters who wait to post their mail-in ballots, Steidler said. While its not known how many voters plan to mail ballots in the remaining days before the November 3 presidential election, if 10 million ballots are mailed in the two days before the election, the slowdown in first-class mail suggests 1.4 million ballots could arrive after Election Day, he warned. That could be an issue for states like Arizona where all ballots are due by November 3.
Its disappointing that the numbers are what they are, Steidler said, adding that he voted in person last week rather than mail a ballot. The Postal Service itself and this is to their credit they said if you havent mailed a ballot by yesterday, that you are better off bringing it in or voting in person.

Maybe we shouldn’t have shut down everything over the 2019 Flu.
NEWMAN!
TOO MANY PEOPLE GOT THEIR MAIL!!!
No one’s ever broken the 50% barrier!
You’re a disgrace to the uniform!
You know, this is YOUR uniform?
Geeez....just looking for an excuse to extend the window.
Or get your a** to the polling place. Once in 4 years and you can't manage that?? But you'll stand outside for hours on Black Friday.
Oh no, we should extend vote counting through the month of November! /s
Fascinating the directions the liberal media are trying to pull people, isn’t it?
.... Solution????? .... Just Vote or Drop off in Person .....
We just delivered ours to our county courthouse. Where we know the people very well.
If people can go to the grocery store they can damn well get out and vote. The old or infirm can mail in an absentee ballot and have had plenty of time to do so. I plan on being at the polls early Tuesday morning.
“We just delivered ours to our county courthouse. Where we know the people very well.”
We were going to do the same, at the Election Office, but learned that the drop box is emptied only every three days. So we cancelled our absentee ballot and voted in person. The whole process took less than 15 minutes.
I assume that some of the missed deliveries are because the Post Office has been ordered to prioritize ballots. So if they have a stack of ballots, those are getting first-class treatment, while my mail is not.
I mean, at least the ballots the postal workers are not hiding in their basements or throwing into ditches.
The next day, Saturday, I called the station late in the afternoon and complained and the Indian guy said it was delivered at 1:15 p.m. on Friday......What???????
I told him I never got it and he said he would call the delivery babe whose jeep just happened to have broken down and they had to send another to replace it.
When she came by an hour and a half later, about 5:00 p.m., she had the package...........No explanation, nothing......
We moved into our current home Labor Day weekend in 1977.
Since then, we have had 4 mail people, 3 UPS drivers and about 50 Fed ex drivers.
All but one UPS drivers have been good people. The different UPS driver was like a mistreated puppy. His parents escaped from an Euro Iron country when he was very young.
Our downtown main post office had rectums, when we moved in, and it still does. I could see them miss placing bags of ballots.
unmentioned but the real threat........postal union members on a mission
Biden always mentions “labor”.
Postal unions are Big Labor
Look no one asked usps if they could do it. States just dumped it on them. It frosts govt type folks to get a gigantic task without careful planning and analysis.
