funny, all summer long theres been rioting and looting and arson in every major city in this country, except in Detroit....and theres a good reason for that...theres simply nothing to loot or burn..1967 took care of all that. Fun Fact!!...theres not one movie theater...major super market or any major retailer in Detroit, a city 3 times the size of Boston land wise....

Bridge street. More Hispanics there so could get interesting and still a few mom & pop long time multi generational businesses.
Grew up 8 city blocks from there , one side WW vets, then Polish section called Bridesberg.
Had a “ project” on the other side of street , grew up with predominantly black friends and respected each other never thought about skin color.
We were all about 9 years old.
First exposure to the N word came from a joint experience where one guy brought up going to get some candy. I asked where and how much?
He said free, we know where the truckers throw it when they steal it from the shipments and then sell it. We get it and give it out in the neighbors both sides of the street.
Off we go, there it was so we grab it and start to head out. Me the white guy and my 3 black friends. All of a sudden the truckers start yelling come back here you thieving’ N’s” and come after us
With the legs of youth no chance they catch up.
Back in our culvert pipe we used as our fort I ask what was that name they called us .
my black friend takes my arm and points to his and says I’m black and an “N” he points to my arm and says you are “White” and never be like me , but will always be my friend.
