White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said Sunday that the country is “not going to control the pandemic” — noting it is contagious like the flu and must be managed with therapeutics and vaccines.
“We’re not going to control the pandemic. We are going to control the fact that we get vaccines, therapeutics and other mitigation efforts,” Meadows said during a contentious interview with Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“Why aren’t we going to get to control the pandemic?” Tapper asked.
“Because it is a contagious virus just like the flu,” Meadows responded, as the two went back and forth about President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence continuing to campaign after five members of Pence’s staff testing positive.
“Let me just say this is what we need to do is make sure that we have the proper mitigation factors — whether it’s therapies or vaccines or treatments — to make sure that people don’t die from this,” he said.
Meadows then went on to suggest that former Vice President Joe Biden wants to quarantine the country.
Tapper said, “nobody is saying that.”
“They are. Joe Biden is saying that. He says, lock everybody down, we’re going to have a dark winter,” Meadows said.
But Tapper countered that’s what health officials are warning will happen this winter as the number of cases surged in the Midwest.
Democrats quickly ripped Meadow’s comment Sunday.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has made the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic a main thrust of his campaign, said he was “stunned.”
“This wasn’t a slip by Meadows,” Biden said in a statement.

Yup. As I said he’s delivering the message Pence and his task force failed to deliver in March.
We’ve yet to invent a vaccine against any coronavirus. Herd immunity is the answer, with theraputics and prophylactics like HCQ for those most exposed.

One thing I’d be interested in knowing is what Meadows (and, by extension, the White House) mean by “other mitigation efforts”. Does he mean wearing masks (which DON’T WORK) is going to be a “forever” thing?
Please don’t get me wrong; I don’t want to look like a single-issue type. But it bothers me to see photos of a masked Pres. Trump and the First Lady. Why wear them at all, now that he’s had (and beaten) the Dreaded Death Plague?
Guess the answer will be seen after the election. Hopefully the masks will disappear as quickly as the grossly inflated “case” totals, beginning Nov. 4.

Pence mistakenly catered to the whims of Fauci-the-fraud a lot-probably why pres Trump quietly and gradually removed Fauci from the spotlight and put his own choice of docs there instead-Fauci obviously has the rat’s ass over that, running to a camera to complain every chance he gets-egotistical little troll...
I agree this was a very poor choice of words one week before the election. I think it’s a gaffe, even.
What “suburban women” do want to hear is just a tad more concern about it from the Trump admin—even if it is not true, a phrase such as “we are going to control the pandemic by careful measures and reopening everything SAFELY” is much better than a cavalier “we aren’t going to control the pandemic”. They love that word SAFELY even if it only really means more recommended handwashing in actuality.
Yup. Pence let himself get bogged down in the minutia of PPE supply chains when Job #1 was message control.
I know a couple of people who got the virus way back in April and yet STILL they are forced to wear masks for zero reason now.

Yup[. The lockstep MSM railed against the Swedish approach of going for herd immunity and just protecting the vulnerable. Their plan worked, so naturally the MSM now ignores their success.

Joe Biden is saying it. He wants people to be required legally to wear masks on the friggin’ interstate FCOL.
Yikes! That’s not good. State mandate? City/town mandate? What state do they live in, if you don’t mind my asking?
Those are suburban Karens-weak sisters-I’m a country woman-no suburbs, thanks-but none of the women I know out here are hiding, masking or living indoors any more than usual-my own cub is a suburban woman who teaches at a private school-yes, that school is open for business, my cub is teaching in the classroom and she’s no Karen, either-I’m tired of catering to these whining, pearl clutching weak sisters-they need a boot in the ass to knock some sense into them...
