White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said Sunday that the country is “not going to control the pandemic” — noting it is contagious like the flu and must be managed with therapeutics and vaccines.
“We’re not going to control the pandemic. We are going to control the fact that we get vaccines, therapeutics and other mitigation efforts,” Meadows said during a contentious interview with Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“Why aren’t we going to get to control the pandemic?” Tapper asked.
“Because it is a contagious virus just like the flu,” Meadows responded, as the two went back and forth about President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence continuing to campaign after five members of Pence’s staff testing positive.
“Let me just say this is what we need to do is make sure that we have the proper mitigation factors — whether it’s therapies or vaccines or treatments — to make sure that people don’t die from this,” he said.
Meadows then went on to suggest that former Vice President Joe Biden wants to quarantine the country.
Tapper said, “nobody is saying that.”
“They are. Joe Biden is saying that. He says, lock everybody down, we’re going to have a dark winter,” Meadows said.
But Tapper countered that’s what health officials are warning will happen this winter as the number of cases surged in the Midwest.
Democrats quickly ripped Meadow’s comment Sunday.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has made the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic a main thrust of his campaign, said he was “stunned.”
“This wasn’t a slip by Meadows,” Biden said in a statement.

This virus cannot be contained; only treated or at best prevented with the proper strain of the vaccine. Decades have gone by with no cure for the yearly flu.
Guess what; the flu always wins. A virus wins because we cannot cure it. Not yet.

I know what Meadows is saying and he is correct. But he stepped into it and gave the Dems a headline that they will be putting in blurbs for the next 3 days and the media will be promoting for the dummies who don’t understand it that will be voting for Biden. Meadows has a tendency to slip up like this just like when he was leaking intimations to the press that Trump was actually sicker than he was letting on when he got covid. Meadows and Wray should be Trump’s first two fires after he is reelected
Well, I guess they can make it "stunning" if they only use one line and lift it out of its context with the other comments - which is of course precisely what they are already doing. They're lying already.
Why in the world would Meadows go on CNN to allow this sort of thing to occur? Another unforced error to allow a firestorm of negative media coverage that didn't have to occur. One after the other.
Australia is an island. That has certain advantages when dealing with the. Virus. . The United State is on the continent of North America. It has large land borders on both its north and south. Almost impossible to stop every person from crossing them. Australia is not a good country to use in comparison.
And Sweden didn’t lockdown and look where they are.
Funny how the left points to Sweden as a model for what socialism can be and wants to emulate it, except when it comes to COVID.

There’s an 82-year old guy at our church who has had a quad-bypass, and even he beat it. I’m 70 and I beat it, although it wasn’t the most pleasant 12 days of my life...LOL.
It is NOT a death sentence by any means.
The political hype and fear mongering is what’s dangerous.
Meadows is making sense, which drives the left insane-here is no foolproof vaccine for the yearly strains of flu-they change vaccines every year and it still only successfully immunizes less than 50% of those who get the vaccine-everyone else uses either drugs or homeopathic remedies to get rid of it-some people with compromised immune systems die every year, too. The common cold is a coronavirus-there is no cure for that-only therapeutic drugs or homeopathic remedies-some people with compromised immune systems can die from colds, too.
Since neither seasonal flu or a common cold can be contained/controlled or vaccinated against 100%, why would anyone think that the Wuhan coronavirus can be contained/controlled-it isn’t a nuisance bear breaking into cabins-it is a f***ing virus-all this masking and isolating and locking down is just postponing everyone getting exposed and getting natural immunity to it, like we do to other illnesses- It is weakening, since more people have fewer and less severe symptoms-just like other viruses have done-remember the last Sars virus or the H1N1 flu? They weakened, too-stop the fear mongering and chicken little crap and lets get open, back to work and making money to live on...
