China Calls Russia's Talk of Possible Military Alliance 'Positive,' with 'No Limit' to Their Ties

China has reacted warmly to Russian President Vladimir Putin's suggestion that the two nations could one day upgrade their strategic partnership to an official military alliance, thus uniting two of the United States' top global competitors.

"You can imagine everything," Putin responded when asked during his discussion Thursday at the Valdai Discussion Club whether a military alliance could be imagined between China and Russia.

The Russian leader explained that the reason such a pact had not already been forged had nothing to do with reservations on either side, but a lack of necessity.

"We have always assumed that our relations have reached such a degree of interaction and trust that we do not need it, but theoretically it is quite possible to imagine such a thing," Putin said.

He said no such project was currently in the works, "but, in principle, we are not going to exclude this, so let's see."

The following day, the proposal was brought to Beijing, where a reporter put forth the hypothetical during Friday's daily press conference with Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian.

Yep, no surprise. Actually, a Russian-Chinese alliance has been the case all along—even when they were having tussles at the border—per KGB defectors like Golitsyn. Nothing has changed. They’re just talking about it openly now.

In the exact same speech from Putin, he also raised the possibility of expanding and improving USA ties.

Was that also part of the plan all along?

Why didn’t this article mention this?

Guess it didn’t fit the narrative

Russian soldiers were complaining about invading Ukraine and not getting paid several years back..not decades ago.

putin and china still have multiple maladies that a strategic relationship will not fix.

And combined, their fleet of air craft carrier groups isn’t exactly daunting.

And yes, they still do matter in today’s world

Given the difference in the size of their populations and China’s expansionist and colonial ambitions Russians should avoid this at all costs. China would love to seize Siberia’s resources.

China can do as she wishes as far as relationships go with Russia. But Russia had best remember one thing and that is that the Chinese Dragon when it gets hungry will possibly turn its attention North to Russia,Especially Siberia. They have already stated as much in a statement a month or so ago.

China has a lot more people they can lose than Russia.Russia is now just getting back on its feet since the demise of the Soviet Union.

In 2016 Trump was running on a platform of normalizing relations with Russia and moving away from the neocon project and their new cold war.
The democrats and the GOP establishment joined forces in the Russia/Trump scam and successfully convinced Russia that there would be no hope of ever just being treated normally.

After 5 years of this crap, 12 if you include the Obama regime carefully cultivating Russia as an enemy, Russia is going to decide an alliance with China might work. China would get the umbrella of Russia’s gigantic nuclear arsenal compared to theirs, and lots of raw materials. Russia gets cash from developing their resources and a market for their oil and a chance to stick a finger in our eye.

The Democrats have successfully taken us back to the original cold war, on steroids.

You are wrong, that’s not what he said.

He said the Communists were more aligned with the Democrats.

I didn't notice that, but also didn't matter. Putin also praised Communism and said he could work with Democrats, which, in turn, was not reported by the media lol.

Russia funds and allies with radical Marxist terror groups throughout South America, and even have leftist journalists on the payroll--like the commie who was deported alongside the red headed bombshell some years back. The commie then started working as a journalist in Russian state controlled media, still calling the USA an impieralist country, though I haven't seen anything new from her for awhile. This is not an isolated incident. Russia is allies with Venezuela, Cuba, and all of the leftist parties in South America. Their war preparation is also designed for the USA--not China.

That last point is really the only thing that matters.

Conservatives need to get off the "Putin is actually our friend" thing. Just because the Democrats are obsessed with Russia, doesn't mean they aren't actually on the payroll of Russia. Angela Merkell, for example, is almost certainly an agent of Russia, having never admitted to her role as a Communist propagandist for the Communist Party, and who--despite blaming Russia for all her enemies--still gave Russia all it wanted in terms of the natural gas pipeline, trade, etc. Merkel has even kept Germany's nuclear submarines perpetually out of service, as well as most of its infantry, armor and air power.

China and Russia are far more natural enemies than the US. Its just that the US is so powerful in comparison the paranoia temporarily unites them.

Darn right. China's been buying up and moving into areas of Siberia and other points along their border.

You can bet your Trump Tower that's why Putin included improving ties with the US in the same speech. I guess the three-way standoff of the 1970s is still the rule.

This news is mostly bluff. Russia fears China far more than the west. Russia seized Siberia from China, and I’m sure China would like it back.

Sounds a lot like Molotov and von Ribbentrop in 1939.
