More than 77,000 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the US on Thursday alone setting a new record for daily infections, statistics show.
Thursdays numbers 77,640 new cases eclipsed the previous record set on July 29, when 75,723 new cases were reported, according to a tally by NBC News.
A total of 921 coronavirus-related deaths were also reported on Thursday.

Cuomo just locked down a goodly portion of Tom Reed’s district in NY. The enemedia is in full hue and cry over WuFlu.
I’m thinking the state hopes to quarantine as many Pubbie voters as they can, and scare away from the polls any still running loose.
Thus, we're beginning to treat this virus outbreak as we have always done with any contagious disease (though we've never before shut down the nation or crushed our society): The virus is running its course; widespread immunity is increasing and just maybe we'll develop the courage to put this dreadful debacle behind us.
Jokes on them because the NY Post’s Twitter feed is still blocked. ;)
How many of these “new cases” are months old data being added to the October tallies?
There is literally no COVID problem in New Jersey. Hardly anybody is getting it, hospitals are empty and nobody is dying from it. But because cases went up in Florida and Texas they have whipped people here into thinking were in the middle of a deadly plague here.
I stand by my statement, lots of people are falling for the casedemic.
The longer it goes the more I see it as a con right from the start... I mean ‘ yes’, a monster flu. But it’s also been and continues to be a Liberal premise for grabbing power and f’ing up the country.
‘If they can’t sail the ship, they foul the rigging.’
Ask Slow Joe how many people were POSITIVE carriers of H1N1
Answer, we will never know.
We stopped counting even people who were SICK with H1N1 in 2009 and just WildArseGuessed the number which continued into 2010.
We certainly never multicounted postives or counted asymptomatic persons or those suspected of having it because of proximity to infected persons.
Joe does not SCIENCE.
What age groups are getting sick? Going to the hospital? Dying?
Yes. The CDC is counting ‘positive tests’ as I understand it. Another question: If I test positive and take a followup test to ‘confirm’ that and the second test comes out negative, do they revise the numbers by deducting my positive result?
Also the highest numbers come in on Thursdays - counting methods I guess.
Yesterday, I watched the hour-long news shows on my local NBC and ABC outlets. Each one had five or six scare stories about Covid, and neither said a single word about Hunter and Joe Biden’s financial machinations.
Medical mishap in hospitals accounts for one of the top 5 leading causes of deaths in America. That number is down this year as well.
No. I saw a graph comparing 2019 to 2020. There were cases in October on the 2019 graph, almost zero on the 2020.
There’s a well-known statistical measure in epidemiology called ‘incidence rate’. It puts ‘counts’ into context by dividing by the population tested.
The fact the media is using ‘counts’ without context is just another scandal involving today’s fake news.
Where are the epidemiologists?
They are censored.
Increasing number of positive test results are mostly meaningless. Hospitalizations and deaths are more indicative with deaths counting more. Look how testing positive is now called a case. What BS. For me a case of Covi-19 is when you feel sick at home or in a hospital.
Herd immunity is nearly upon us!
It looks to me like a little fudging of the numbers going on by NBC to get the record to coincide with the debate, since neither Johns Hopkins nor Worldometers show a number that high and not quite a new record yet.
Obviously the lockdowns haven’t solved anything.
