The Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee has approved Judge Amy Coney Barretts nomination to the Supreme Court, sending the matter to the full Senate for consideration.
Democrats on the committee boycotted the vote Thursday, resulting in a 12-0 vote in favor of the nomination.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer reiterated his partys objection to President Donald Trump moving ahead with replacing the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the court so close to an election, arguing that such a move should be left to whichever candidate wins the November 3 U.S. presidential election.
He cited the Supreme Court vacancy in 2016, when then-President Barack Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland but Senate Republicans blocked the process while making similar arguments about letting voters decide who should pick the next justice.
When Merrick Garland was nominated, eight months before an election, we have to wait for an election. Now that an election is ongoing, we are rushing through this nomination. It is one of the worst moments the Senate has ever seen, Schumer said.
He called Barretts confirmation proceedings the most rushed, most partisan and least legitimate process in the history of Supreme Court nominations.
Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham said the Democrats boycotting the vote does a disservice to Judge Barrett who deserves a vote, up or down.
With Republicans holding a 53-47 majority in the Senate, Graham expressed optimism about the prospects for Barretts nomination.
Judge Barrett deserves to be on the Supreme Court and she will be confirmed, he said.
The 12 Republicans on the committee have indicated they will back Barrett.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans to follow the Judiciary Committees vote with a procedural vote in the full Senate on Sunday that could bring a final vote on Barretts nomination on Monday.
If Barrett is confirmed to the lifetime appointment, the Supreme Court would have a 6-3 conservative majority.
I understand there are 51 sold votes for her today.
Never trust a Democrat. They always lie, cheat, steal.

So Judge Barrett was voted out unanimously by the Judiciary Committee!
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer reiterated his partys objection to President Donald Trump moving ahead with replacing the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg...
Democrats hate when people do their actual job.
By boycotting the committee, those idiot rats removed ALL opposition.
This is a classic example of “biting off one’s own nose to spite one’s own face”.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE
WHAT JERKS THESE RATS BE.
Yes, I think that Collins and Murkowski may be no votes. But that still leaves 51 Republicans.
Well, any other defectors, we have Mike Pence warming up in the bullpen, if you get my meaning. I wonder if someone like Romney would stick it to Trump and vote no?
I believe that Roberts’ performance as a Supreme Court Justice flies in the face of him being deemed “conservative”. With Justice Barett on board, the Supreme Court will be split 5/4 with constitutionalists comprising the meager majority.
Not could, will have final vote Monday.
Great news. Let’s have the floor vote today.
Hey leave Dorthey out of this.
STFU, Schumer. You lost!!! BWAHAHAHA!
Nonsense. The spineless corrupt compromised there are no Obama Judges here Roberts is no conservative.
unanimous!
Unlikely Romney votes no. He already said she was well qualified for SCOTUS and hasn’t said anything bad about her at all.
So two women Republican Senators will not vote to confirm a extremely qualified woman Supreme Court Justice? And they think that is what gets them votes, from their party? I dare them to vote no.
And...... there are ten rumored Democrat votes for her confirmation
I wish they could do it all this afternoon.
Baloney. Roberts in no conservative and has shown time and time again that he has no qualms about legislating from the bench as he has repeatedly done with ObaMaoCare and ObaMao's executive orders.
