Farmer speaks out following harvest equipment fire in Clay County (Arson because of Trump flags)

In the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 15th, several local fire departments responded to a fire in rural Clay County, NE.

Jonathan Rempel said he was getting his two children ready for school on Thursday when he received a phone call from the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department.

“They said Your harvest equipment is on fire,” Rempel recalled. “All of it.”

According to the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s office, the fire destroyed a combine, two trucks and trailers filled with grain, a tractor, and a grain cart.

Rempel described the location of the fire as a ‘very rural area’, two miles off the two-lane highway.

Photographs from the fire have been shared widely on social media, suggesting the fire was politically driven and arson.

Rempel avoided making the political connection in his Facebook post, sharing the news of the fire. He did confirm that two flags in support of President Donald Trump were on his combine.

Flags and signs in support of President Donald Trump are not uncommon in Nebraska this year. Numerous farmers have used their harvest equipment as rolling billboards this election year.

The Fire Marshal’s office told the Rural Radio Network that the investigation into the fire is ongoing.

“Words can’t do justice to explain both the emotional lows, and support that we have experienced just since early this morning,” Rempel wrote on Facebook. “Things can definitely be replaced….people can’t.”

The following statement was posted by Rempel on Facebook:

No one wants to read about sad stories or pain on Facebook, but we believe we need to share this to the larger community of friends that we have both near and far.

Today was a hard day. I received a call this morning at 7 am while helping get the kids ready for school. The call was from the Sutton volunteer fire department. They were calling to tell me that all of my harvest equipment at the field was on fire and they were putting it out. We can not say thank you enough to the Sutton and Clay Center VFD’s who responded to the early call.

Apparently, sometime early this morning our combine and corn head, tractor, and two semi’s all caught fire at about the same time while being parked at a safe distance from each other. We are devastated and crushed by the enormous loss we face from this fire, but at the same time are incredibly blessed to be from rural America, where the people are the best. Both of our phones have blown up with a huge out-pouring of support from friends, family, business partners, and strangers. People offering their physical help, their operational help, and offers of food and meals in this time of tragedy. These people are already stretched thin, are stressed and tired, but are taking time to reach out, and offer help and aid in a time of need. We are so incredibly blessed by everyone!!!

Words can’t do justice to explain both the emotional lows, and support that we have experienced just since early this morning. We are thankful no one was injured during the incident. Things can definitely be replaced….people can’t.

Again, we want to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who has reached out to us today. Love, The Rempels.

In the dead of night fire destroyed a combine, two trucks and trailers filled with grain, a tractor, and a grain cart while all were sitting in a field scattered apart from each other.

It is a tradition for farmers to fly flags from their combines. This farmer was flying Trump flags.

Arson pure and simple.

Heard about this on a youtube farming video I follow. The local farmers are organizing a “Harvest Bee” and are going to finish harvesting the crop for the family who just lost their livelihood.

Horrible! How did they even find the guy? Has antifa spread out to rural America?

In the old west, the tradition was to hang horse thieves. Pretty sure, burning out a farmer would have the same result. Not so sure that was a bad solution in a place without law enforcement or a place with corrupt law enforcement.

It only takes one nut.

And many farmers are “team blue” after Trump’s trade policies destroyed their income. No one likes to hear it, but Trumps war on China cost the coasts a little, the farmers a lot.

Never a good idea to fly a flag on things you can’t monitor 24/7. Local cops have been telling people here to be careful putting Trump signs in areas that are easily accessed, and to never put it on high dollar property.

This is some what local to where I grew up.

If this isn’t solved soon, or is “managed”, there will be reprisals.

One poll showed 85 percent of farmers voting Trump. Nuff said.

Wow, talk about chilling First Amendment rights...

Set an old junker piece of farm equipment with a Trump flag out about 400 yards then sit and watch....with a 22-250.

Offer a big Reward.

The Perp who did this won’t be able to control himself talking about how he did this to an Evil Orange Man Supporter.

Not true. Farmers are doing good. The ending of WOTUS was the best move to end the “Largest federal land grab ever” according to Sonny Perdue and Zippy Duval.

I hope they have insurance to cover the massive equipment losses. If not, does anyone know if there is a national fundraising effort to help these good people? We have to stick together - a few cannot bear the cost of this Antifa garbage. Thus, today there were stories of some jerk (caught and charged with felony arson) burning a Trump display on a house in Shamokin, PA; a man and his son with Trump stickers on their pickup attacked by a Bolshevik with a shotgun in Kingman, MD (caught as well and charged with attempted murder).

Common sense.

When the mobs riot, and the cops arrest those who resit the mob, whom does the 1st amendment protect?

I want those a holes found and prosecuted. I am not sure the cops will do anything. While the local sheriff is probably good, I am pretty confident Omaha will step in and make sure the “protesters” are protected and bailed out.

The “Harvest Bee’ does NOT surprise me.

However, this farmer needs his equipment replaced.

Has anyone started a Go Fund Me account for him???
