The First Space Force Recruits Are Headed to Basic Military Training

U.S. Space Force may not yet have its own boot camp, but the service's very first direct enlistees are about to head to entry-level training nonetheless.

Chief Master Sgt. Roger Towberman, senior enlisted leader of the Space Force, said seven new recruits will head to basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where they'll train alongside Air Force recruits -- albeit with a few distinctions.

"They needed to know they were different; that's important to us," Towberman told Military.com in an interview Thursday.

In addition to their Occupational Camouflage Pattern uniforms with service-specific blue-stitched name tapes, the recruits will each have tablets loaded with information about the fledgling service they're joining, he said.

"We've preloaded those tablets with some learning materials and different things that they can get a head start on -- 'Hey, what is this Space Force thing all about?'" he said.

I hope they teach celestial navigation and how to copulate efficiently in space.

Well, you can’t use an M16 in space.

Giant Golden Asteroid Could Make Everyone On Earth a Billionaire
Out there in space, right now above our heads, is a wealth of knowledge. And in this case, we mean that literally. Believe it or not, in our very solar system, there is an asteroid that is thought to be the remnants of a planet core. And that means that all those pricey metals that we have to dig for here on Earth, are exposed, and ripe for the taking. Estimates put this giant space faring gold mine at 10,000 quadrillion dollars [$10 quintillion, duh], and who knows, if we can get up there to explore it up close, we may find that it is worth even more.

What would this do to our economy? Just how rich would this make everyone on earth if it was split evenly? Are there any missions planned to get up there? Oh, we got your answers right here.

In today's video we are getting scientific, while making sure to not skimp out on the riches, so we can give you the scoop on this nearby, giant, golden asteroid. If it piques your interest, you're not alone. None other than Elon Musk has made comments about his thoughts on mining this bad boy, and considering SpaceX will be the company that supports NASA in this quest, you better believe it's something we should all take seriously. It would bring all new meaning to the phrase, the rich only get richer.

So sit back, relax, and get ready to countdown from ten, as we fire all the thrusters and blast off into the final frontier to give you the scoop on the absurd amount of gold floating around in our solar system.

Sep 14, 2020In 2012, astronomers believed they discovered one such planet made of diamonds, and it was so close to our world it was visible to the naked eye.

I still believe that the Space Force Commanding General ought to be named Buck Rogers!

Good for them.

A couple of questions:

Do they need to shave their neck beards?
What are the chances that the uniform will get them chicks?

And finally, how absurd will it be to have the Air Force guys calling the SF guys nerds. And can a Coastie give them a hard time? Nah.

I was in the very FIRST Co-Ed Basic Training Platoon at Fort Jackson, SC in 1978.

There beginning August 77. That one thing is what they dogged us out with every single day. You're the last and we are NOT going to let you forget it. It is all water under the bridge now but then?, they were irritable.

We'd all be so rich we could wrap our baked potatoes in gold foil, not that crappy low-class aluminum foil

One of my favorite movies is “Gattaca”, and one of the main characters (played by Jude Law) is a genetically engineered perfect man, except he got hit by a car and can’t use his legs and is confined to a wheelchair.

So he sells his “perfect pedigree” to a guy who wasn’t genetically engineered who wants to get a spot in the astronaut force for a long term mission to mars.

At some point in the movie, he wryly points out that he and his perfect engineering and intellect should have been chosen, because he wouldn’t be using his legs in space...

I entered USAF basic 5 Oct 1971. I wound up in several different commands (USAFSS then ATC then SAC) but we went through the same core training in our pickle suits. We all looked the same and were treated the same through basic training and then our tech schools.

Why change that because this is essentially still the same until USSC gets their own identity and their own infrastructure in a clean break.

Just move them to Vandenberg and do basic there. The Army did that with MOS specific training like artillery going to Fort Sill for both basic and AIT. It is cost effective and it works. The USAF already has the tech school infrastructure at Vandenberg, basic would just add 7 1/2 weeks to that.
