On Sept. 22, CNN triumphantly announced that 200,000 people had died from COVID-19 in the United States.
CNN tried various ways of rubbing in the 200,000 figure. Their best effort was an infographic blaring, US COVID-19 deaths are equal to having the 9/11 attacks every day for 66 days.
Heres a less biased, but less catchy, comparison: 2020s attributed COVID-19 deaths were equivalent to having another 2017-2018 flu and pneumonia season boosted by 13 percent.
The CDC estimated that about 177,000 Americans died during the 2017-2018 flu season, from either the flu itself or by complications of pneumonia. (The CDC never made a public announcement about this number, but you can count it yourself from data on its site, as I did in the chart below.) That was a bad year, noted at the time, but mostly by medical professionals. Those with good memories will recall seeing more Wash Your Hands and Cough Into Your Elbows posters.
Still, nobody remembers a panic. Just as nobody remembers mask mandates or political leaders shutting down small businesses and locking the healthy in their homes. Because, of course, none of that happened. (This lack of panics during past pandemics is detailed in our book, The Price of Panic: How the Tyranny of Experts Turned a Pandemic into a Catastrophe.)
On the same day as CNNs announcement, the CDC officially posted a total 187,072 deaths attributed in some way to COVID-19. Deaths were boosted to a hair under 300,000 after adding in pneumonia and flu.

The numbers were inflated so as to have more to blame Trump. Samantha airhead proved it the other night. They are blaming it all on him.
Samples:
The CDC itself caused a stir at the end of August by estimating that the virus directly caused only 6 percent, or now just over 11,000 of the 187,000 attributed deaths.
...It might seem odd that testing numbers are going up even as attributed deaths drop. But this paradox is largely due to the fact that we do so much testing.

*BUMP*
I just read that 500,000 Americans died during the 1918 pandemic.
Because its election season and they hate Trump?
And of course bad news sells much better than good news.
Its a twofer!
“we do so much testing”....would that be like what the President says? Duh...
Yep, it was the last time the US had to resort to mass graves.
If you really study the Spanish Flu, you’ll find that after 100 years there is still no confidence in any measurements at all. It’s all estimates of “between 80,000 and 10,000,000” this and that.
And the population of the US was 103 million
They over counted so many ways....
The test they give was meant for research as it can identify dead virus fragments a few months after someone contracted the virus and even if they never became ill with it. The inventor of the test objected to it being used for the pandemic - it’s estimated only 10% or less of the tests were accurate.
They counted a death for any reason as having resulted from covid-19 if a person died 60 days within having one of those tests and remember, most of those were likely false positives. Someone asked, “You mean even a car accident?” and the person being interviewed said “Yes, but that would be a statistically small number...” But people in hospitals for other reasons were being tested so it includes deaths from heart attacks, cancer etc.
The counted each time the same person took a test as separate tests.
Some locations (Texas) “presumed” that for every postive Covid-19 test result, another 15 were positve but not tested and they COUNTED THOSE.
They counted deaths from Covid without a test result if they thought it reasonable???? There are more ways but I can’t remember them. It’s all an evil, lying MSM blur.
Or you could say that COVID is like having 3/10s of 1% of the deaths due to abortion since Roe.
They inflated the flu number by almost 3 times. The CDC’s actual number for that year was 61,000.
Can’t make CCP-19 less lethal, so they have to make the flu more lethal to normalize the China Virus.
And they push the 6% lie. 11,000 out of 187,000. People that die from “just” the flu? 1350 per year, on average, or 2.75%. People that die from the flu and related causes out of all that get it? 0.1% People that die from CCP-19 and related causes? 2.8% Apples-to-apples.
It does not seem odd that deaths drop as testing goes up. That is a stupid claim. More testing means catching more cases early enough to make a difference. And in particular, we are getting better at dealing with the virus at the same time as we are ramping up testing. It’s a double hit on the virus.
We did what needed to be done to contain the virus and now we can let up a bit as we can handle it better. That still doesn’t mean it’s suddenly okay to let people die, but it’s a balance. As long as our HCS can sustain the load. We get through it faster, and at some point it’s a net positive in terms of lives saved (since economic hardship has a real cost in lives). Nobody on this site is qualified to make that calculation, so leave it to the President.
In the end, there need to be repercussions for China’s release of this virus (IMO, bioweapon negligently released) and their subsequent actions that compounded the problem.
“I just read that 500,000 Americans died during the 1918 pandemic.”
625,000 over a span of 26 months. Biggest hit was in October of 1918, but over the whole pandemic an average of about 800 people per day.
All ages, not just mostly elderly.
If Trump is to blame, then so is every other head of state/government in the world.
Today, France has 4X as many cases as the peak of its first wave in April.
Deaths are not rising as fast though because the most vulnerable (age + comorbidities + genetics) are already dead last spring.
If deaths were adjusted to individual lost years of life, the effect of COVID-19 almost vanishes in the statistics. Even a vaccine or cure is superfluous. It is mostly killing people a few months or a year or two before they would have been dead anyway. We all die of something.
Those are the cold hard realities.
Virus gonna Virus.
That must be a long article.
But, they’re kinda screwed in a way, because the countries that aggressively used HCQ have a much lower death rate. We aren’t using it much because Falsie and the media politicized it, because you know, Trump can’t be right about anything, yet they still want to hold The Donald accountable for the death toll. Beyond moronic.
