New Jersey’s Monmouth University was forced to cancel in-person classes after an outbreak of 319 confirmed coronavirus cases — mostly from an off-campus “super-spreader” event, the school’s president said.
“It appears that this increase in cases among students was tied to an off-campus event hosted two weeks ago,” president Patrick Leahy told students in an update to the two-week shutdown that included athletic events.
“An overwhelming majority of the recent cases we have seen can be traced back to this isolated super-spreader event,” he said.

A relative of mine was one of them.
a relative of mine was one of them and it was just a bad cold as far as I know. All better. Loss of taste and smell was one of the symptoms.
The question is why some events are “super-spreaders” and not others.
It seems the most straightforward explanation is “because someone was spreading it on purpose”. Someone Chinese, perhaps.
So the people are closer to a herd immunity.

My grandson goes to college in N.C. He woke up yesterday feeling awful and every morning they have to fill out a form on how they’re feeling. His mother told him to be honest. He was and got a rapid Covid test which was negative. He was still ordered to quarantine at the local Quality Inn for 2 days until his 2nd Covid test is negative.
Back when I was in college and grad school, I remember often hearing about how the on-campus in patient infirmary had no beds due to the flus, walking pneumonia, and strep that was going around.
That was the place that kids who lived too far from home went to if they felt too sick to put up with dorm life, I guess. I was a commuter student myself.
Per Monmouth Cty Health Dept:
As of Oct. 9, there are 80 hospitalized, ten in intensive care (ICU) and six on a ventilator in Monmouth County due to COVID-19.
Amazing how the elite takes care of its own.
