New Jerseys Monmouth University was forced to cancel in-person classes after an outbreak of 319 confirmed coronavirus cases mostly from an off-campus super-spreader event, the schools president said.
It appears that this increase in cases among students was tied to an off-campus event hosted two weeks ago, president Patrick Leahy told students in an update to the two-week shutdown that included athletic events.
An overwhelming majority of the recent cases we have seen can be traced back to this isolated super-spreader event, he said.

The only super spreader I know is Kamala Harris.
“The only super spreader I know is Kamala Harris.”
That is racist /s
How many of them are in the hospital? Im so tired of them acting like getting Covid is a death sentence.
Raaaacisst! but also very funny.
Score one for Buckeye.
And just like all those old white republican folk that got it in DC from a so-called super-spreader event, they’ll all be fine.
ask fauci about bug chasers and HIV
I knew a super spreader once.
Had to take Penicillin for 2 weeks.
Most of the posts on this thread are just wrong for a G-PG rated site.
But this one just BEGGED for those kinds of replies :)
“... He did not detail the event, although students told NBC4 that there have been an abundance of parties at the West Long Branch university.”
LOL, Kegger. Ah, the good old days...
My daughter goes to Monmouth. She is hardly on campus this semester. I think once a week so the cancelling of on campus classes is negligible. But the hype is strong. She has not heard of anyone being hospitalized.
Is anyone sick?
I think the term super spreader is annoying.
Students infected, recovered, and part of herd immunity is the best thing that today’s colleges and universities will produce.
Couldn’t have been a Biden rally...too many people are sick.
Then the panic was about the total deaths... which was understandable.
Then the panic was about total cases... because the numbers are 30x bigger.
And now the panic is over every possible positive test, which give the maximum possible numbers, and will never ever go away.
Did anyone else notice that, from the beginning, the graphs that were universally used were the "total cases", which can never show a decline... rather than current cases, or daily or weekly deaths.
Threadjack - I assume you saw the story on the Staten Island GOP tricking Lefty Tik-Tok users into donating $thousands to the GOP?
She climbed to the top on her back.
Yes, in my opinion, the term “super-spreader-event” is not a scientific term. Scientifically, we talk about “outbreaks”, and we talk about individuals being “super-spreaders”, in that they infect a lot more people than would be normal. Like if the overall R-value is 1.1, but one person hits 10-20 people, that person is a super-spreader, and it often has to do with the person having a LOT of the virus to expectorate, or the person interacting with a lot of people while sick.
I wonder how many of these 319 students became seriously ill, enough to require hospitalization? My guess is that the answer is closer to zero than to 10.
That is racist /s
+sexist, + heterophobic...
How will Monmouth ever do it's election polling now, without phone banks staffed by poorly paid co-eds to do the polling?
