A tweet is not an actual order to the Pentagon. Trump may tweet how he wants troops home by Christmas. That may very well be his desire, but until he actually issues an order through the appropriate channels, it’s not a command to the military forces. Of course, no matter what the president or any official says, the NYT will always frame it in the worst possible way.

These Generals forget that it is their job to provide advice in private and to support the CinC publically. We had a great PMS (Professional Military Studies - can’t say that anymore) lesson as cadets called But Sir, Yes Sir....these generals should try and practice it.
I hope this turns into a big story. “Trump wants the troops home by Xmas. Generals aiming for early next year.” We have been there for 20 years, what’s a few months. Huge success!
