San Francisco experienced a 43% year-over-year decline in sales tax revenues during the pandemic, which has been credited to an exodus from the expensive city.
San Franciscos chief economist Ted Egan attributed the drop in revenue that occurred between April and June to a flight of individuals from the city, rather than a decline in activity due to the pandemic.
Egan told Fox News that while areas throughout California experienced a decline in sales tax revenues, other cities saw an uptick in online sales but San Francisco did not.
In San Francisco, we saw a big drop in brick-and-mortar sales, and very little increase in online sales, Egan said. So it raises the question, where did that spending go?

Nobody wants to live in Nancy’s San Franshitsco.
Let Queen Nantoinnette and all of the Hollyweirdos pick up the shortfall tab.
And this is why Nancy is pushing for a blue state/city bailout. And if Biden wins, she’ll get it in spades.
Hooda thunkit
Not to worry.
As soon as Biden is elected the CCP will fill it with ChiCom citizens.
Friends and relatives who live there complain that that's already happened.
Wow. Imagine that...
If this exodus continues you maybe able to get a two bedroom bungalow on 1/8 acre in a semi-decent neighborhood for less than $1.5 million
city murdered by white trash.
And will raise taxes on those that remain to cover what is lost by those that left.
Cause and effect. The world’s greatest mystery to liberals.
Why is it when someone asks “how dumb can you be”, liberals take that as a challenge?
Prior to the lockdowns, SF used to get around 1 million people per day entering the city, and spending money there.
From tourists to office workers and janitors.
Then came the lockdowns., the TRUE source of this reduction of tax revenue.
The author and the city economist want you to believe San Francisco lost 42% of its population, which is ludicrous on its face.
NO! They are leaving because it is lawless, dirty, and expensive. The pandemic just became the last straw.
My son in Silicon Valley left. Most of his friends did too. Much of Silicon valley can work from anywhere.
Raise taxes ... still have the Hollywood and Silicon Valley millionaires/billionaires plus all of the State employees/retirees that are in the $200,000-$500,000 range that have been pleading to have the rich pay “just a little bit more” in taxes.
The DemocRats’ solution? Raise taxes, of course.
Where the frack are Californias GOP? They have been given issue after issue on a silver salver, yet there is zero opposition voice there.
Are these cucks still beholden to the Romney-National Review-Chamber of Commerce wing of the Party???
Yep.
Let ‘em all stew in that lib mess they’ve made, together.
