This story took place over the past week or so but its just bubbling to the surface outside of the local news beat. In Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mayor Danene Sorace (D) held an extremely short press conference on October 2nd to announce the retirement of their Chief of Police, Jarrad Berkihiser. After briefly thanking him for his service, the Mayor took no questions from the press and departed. The Police Chief did not attend the event and issued no comment.
Lancasters police chief was forced to retire because his wife posted positive comments about President Trump on Facebook, according to the past president of the local Fraternal Order of Police.
Mayor Danene Sorace announced Jarrad Berkihisers retirement on Friday, Oct. 2, during a three-and-a-half-minute news conference at which she did not answer questions and which Berkihiser did not attend.
It was retire or be fired, John Fiorill, the FOPs immediate past president said Friday.
Fiorill said his account of Berkihisers retirement is based on a call Berkihiser made to the FOP lodge seeking labor advice after Sorace demanded his resignation. Since Berkihiser had not reached an agreement with the city at the time of that call, Fiorill said he believes he can share the information with the media.
In followup series of exchanges with the press, the Mayor continued to insist that she couldnt make any further comment on the subject, citing privacy and an agreement between her and the soon-to-be ex-Chief. Jarrad Berkihiser isnt issuing any public statements either

there’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.
And how big is the quiet Trump vote???? getting bigger every day
Hmmm. That sounds fair. NOT!
How do you force a righteous man to resign?
Dunno anything about Lancaster PA, but I’d place a small bet that this mayer is out next election. Hope it was worth it.
Clear violation of her 1st amendment rights and his wrongful termination. Big $$$ coming their way.
Its Amish country.
She’s probably pissed at the police chief for doing a good job containing the recent BLM riots in Lancaster.
We are now at the point that being a conservative or christian is illegal. It’s a firing offense, it disqualifies you as a job applicant.
Imagine if we didn’t have the WH and Senate? If things are this bad now?
Threaten his pension.
I really hate the idea of creating even more laws or regulations, but political preference should be protected, just like race and (supposedly) religion from being used as an excuse to fire people.
The biggest argument against polling this cycle is this type of intolerance.
Was wondering if it was the very same Lancaster synonymous with the Amish. Even still, if it’s a city then I am going to guess that the demographics are not necessarily that conservative as the countryside. Still, i’d be surprised if no backlash.
I was driving around Somerset County, PA this weekend and the Trump swag on display was YUGE!
Wish it were so here in Pittsburgh.
Lancaster police have immediately put down any attempts to riot, loot and burn. This doesn’t sit well with the Marxist Mayor who goes out of her way to support bLM. She better watch her ass. The Amish are going to come with their AR-15’s. And yes, the Amish own firearms.
Gee, another woman in office getting her “feelings” hurt because of what someone posted.
It never effing ends.
Well thats a first amendment violation.
Great retirement plan.
This. Whenever you “take the Queen’s shilling,” be prepared for the consequences.
Clear violation of her 1st amendment rights and his wrongful termination. Big $$$ coming their way.
I think that they will be retiring in style.
