Coons Says That Confirming Barrett 'Constitutes Court-Packing'

Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. Chris Coons said on Sunday that the Senate moving to confirm President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett "constitutes court-packing," and called the nominee's views "disqualifying."

Coons, D-Del., made the comments during an interview with "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace. Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., also spoke with Wallace Sunday.

"I'm going to be laying out the ways in which Judge Barrett's views ... are not just extreme, they're disqualifying," Coons said of Democrats' strategy for Barrett's hearings. "It constitutes court-packing."

Court-packing's traditional definition is expanding the Supreme Court by law and then confirming justices to those seats, not what Republicans are doing, which is filling a naturally occuring vacancy. Sasse shot back that Coons' definition of court-packing was "obviously" incorrect and accused the Democrat of using "Orwellian" language.

Control the language. Control the debate. The commonly understood meaning of “court packing” is expansion of the total NUMBER of justices, not the replacement of a VACANT seat.

Senator Chris Coons of Delaware is a joke! How is Barrett’s confirmation construed to be court packing? The Court was not packed when Ginsburg was there. It will not be packed when Barrett is there. Coons is just rambling because his liberal is gone and a conservative will replace her.

“He’s a racist for not changing his name. Cancel him! REEEEEEEEE!”

What about the Canadian politician named Matthew Coon-Come, which is about 100x worse? :P

REALITY CHECK: The Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937, frequently called the “court-packing plan,” was proposed by then-Pres FDR to add more justices to the USSC .

What is lost in the retelling is that FDR lost the battle but won the war. Although he lost the 'court-packing' scheme, the Supreme Court, previously stout in resisting the multiple 'New Deal' expansions of the power of the Executive Branch, started to be much more accommodating to the encroachment.

Five years after this, the Supreme Court, having lost Chief Justice Hughes to retirement, ruled in FDR's Administration's favor in the case of Wickard v. Filburn, 317 U.S. 111 (1942), where a farmer (Filburn) was fined for growing too much wheat FOR HIS OWN USE. With 8 of the 9 Justices now appointed by FDR, the Supreme Court grossly expanded the power implied to the US Constitution's "Commerce Clause" and rendered the concept of private property!

"Coons Says That Confirming Barrett 'Constitutes Court-Packing'"

Only if the administration is Republican. FDR probably had a cute liberish expression for it, like fairness uniformity (FU).

If Coon was any sort of father at all, he’d not say anything good about Biden ever. But he’s a leftist so he’d rather have his daughter molested by Biden while he watches approvingly.

Glad you posted about Pedo Joe and the young Coons girl so I don’t have to. But like you I wonder how parents stand by and watch their daughter get groped by a serial deviant like Biden.

On a thread last week, I told about a buddy seeing the only Biden/Harris sign on his block in front of two militant lesbians' house. He called me later on and said that they had then down their goofy year-'round lesbian pride sign. Gotta keep the cable news-fed clueless sheeps from putting two and two together, y'know. A lot of people would be repulsed by Gropin' Joe if they knew... but the MSM and social media has effectively made sure that didn't - and won't - happen.

But Senator Harris said “court packing” is putting 50 white people on the court and not one black person. Another super stupid Senator.

The one thing they cannot discuss or even consider is her religion. Ha,ha too bad for them, total violation of her first amendment rights if they even broach the subject.

A Republican should respond, “NOT confirming a USSC judge is interference in the constitution.”
