FReeper Canteen ~ Sunday Chapel ~ An Honest Doubter ~ 11 October 2020

AN HONEST DOUBTER

The often heard quip, "He or she is a doubting Thomas," usually is given in a negative way...someone who can't get with the program or is not a team player. The origin of this statement goes to the passage in John's Gospel. Thomas, who somehow missed the first appearance of the resurrected Jesus to the rest of the disciples, states he will not believe until he sees and touches the Lord. He is a realist, a man who is shattered in his faith after witnessing the arrest and death of Jesus. He is honest enough to admit it, stating clearly his needs.

When we go through traumatic experiences, and are shaken to the very fiber of our being, we need special reassurance. Although Jesus says to Thomas, "Stop doubting and have faith," notice He still meets Thomas where he needs it most, and in a manner just right for us. We must be honest about our need for Him, admitting our doubts and lack of faith. Unlike pop psychology our strength does not come from within us, but from outside from the God who knows best. "Come and experience, and go forth in faith to love and serve the Lord."

It’s not even peak color yet...more rides, more yard sales, I wish it would never end!

But we ARE talking about New England, so a BLIZZARD could happen any day now.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS AND OUR BELOVED NATION!

Amazing Grace
(Click)

By John Newton

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR OUR AMERICAN HEROES AND FOR OUR BELOVED NATION!

Gen. George Washington and his Troops Marching To Valley Forge
December 1777

GEN. GEORGE WASHINGTON
THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.

AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

HEAVENLY FATHER, Lord of the Nations, unto Your Divine Mercy we commend the souls of these valiant men and women who have fallen in the service of our Beloved Nation and in defense of the Freedoms we hold dear. We pray that You gather them in Your Loving Embrace, that You cause Your Countenance to shine upon them, and that You vouchsafe their souls to dwell eternally in Your Divine Presence. Through Jesus Christ Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Have you and Mrs MacNessa been able to sing in the choir at all this summer?

Good evening, Kathy.

*HUGS*

We have not sung in the choir - singing at Church is not allowed in my county under the Covid regime.

Oh no...I forgot about the “mandates”.

Do they at least let you attend services?

We are allowed to attend, but capacity is limited by a county executive order and we have to sign up to attend. We refuse to comply and have not been to church since the shutdown began. We are also withholding our usual contributions to the Church in protest over the Church's failure to protect our religious freedom. Abortion mills and liquor stores are "essential" activities while churches are not. I wrote a sizzling letter to our Archbishop outlining his egregious transgressions. Crickets in response.

A tad behind, but trying to catch up....

Signing up to attend???? OMG, that is NOT right, nor is considering Churches “non-essential”. This mandate is so screwed up!!

Good for you for your letter. Crickets? Not surprised anymore.

God Bless you and yours!!
