Haredim, as ultra-Orthodox Jews are called, translates to “those who tremble.” But as New York’s leaders are learning, the Haredim tremble before God—not politicians.
This week they are protesting in the street and courts against new harsh lockdown restrictions on ZIP codes in Brooklyn, Queens, Binghamton, and Rockland and Orange Counties, including several Haredi neighborhoods. Imposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, the rules also shut down schools, restaurants, bars and gyms.
But the Governor singled out religious institutions in “hot zones” for special limits. No more than 10 people allowed. A quorum of 10 men is the bare minimum for key Jewish prayers. Worse, the cap is disconnected from the science: Many synagogues are built to seat hundreds, if not thousands, and far more than 10 can pray safely. Agudath Israel of America, an Orthodox umbrella group, filed a lawsuit Thursday challenging the constitutionality of the new restrictions.
The rules took many Haredi leaders by surprise, as did Mr. Cuomo’s threat to close noncompliant synagogues. Announcing both during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot didn’t help. On Thursday the Governor even made the sweeping accusation that the Haredi community has never followed the Covid rules.

The ultra Orthodox are a little different and have a reputation for bloc voting based on direction from their leaders. Granted, the odds are against a full repudiation of the Democrats, but an election or two of punishment may be in the offing. The example of the doomed, courageous revolt of the Maccabees against Roman religious oppression is not forgotten.

I have heard of the word “Harridan”. That’s an old word for old, bothersome woman. Maybe these people are using it with a slight change to mean ‘those who rebel’.

For years, the Democrat party have engaged in soft jihad against Israel. Their Euro brethren hate Israel and embrace Israels enemies too. It is the same with American Democrats. BLM and Antifa are chock-full of virulent antisemites. It oozes out of them everywhere they go, like slime from a slug.
My neighbor Henry is a fully Orthodox Jew, but he hates Trump and will vote his usual Dim. In all other respects, he seems quite normal and a very nice man. I have NO idea how an otherwise intelligent man could pull the lever for two lying commies and therefore tacitly support Antifa, BLM, the Squat, and all the ancilliary turds like Linda Sarsour, etc., especially an Orthodox Jew. And, like all other libs, you cannot get him to even listen to or look at documents, illustrations, facts, figures, or anything else which would threaten his Dim world-view.
