The Trump campaign on Thursday said President Trump will participate in a debate on Oct. 22 in a town hall-format, while proposing the final presidential debate be pushed back a week, to Oct. 29.
The back-and-forth between the Trump and Biden campaigns and the Commission on Presidential Debates comes after the commission, early Thursday, said that "the second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which the candidates would participate from separate remote locations." Steve Scully of C-SPAN is still set to moderate the second presidential debate from Miami.
The president said he would not participate in a virtual format, calling it ridiculous, and the Biden campaign assumed that his unwillingness to take part in an online debate meant that there would only be one more presidential debateinstead of twoand that he was not willing to participate in the town hall format.

CPD virtual town hall proposal? what justification??
Simple. Hold the debate next week as originally planned.
Art of the Deal
When Trump holds a rally that draws bigger ratings than Joe debating himself, fear and panic will ensue.
The Trump Campaign should show up to the venue as planned, and livestream him debating an empty chair.
I think he should say...I show up next week to debate as agreed even if no one is here. I’ll sit in a chair and talk to whoever shows up! I’ll leave an empty chair in case Joe wants to join me in a conversation.
Yes!!!
That is exactly what he should do..
Trump should show up in Times Square and host a Rally/town hall at the exact time Biden is having his town hall.
Oooooh, I like it, but the owners of the building would probably lock the doors.
Somebody said his dream debate question is, “Who invented the light bulb?”
I agree, the Trump campaign should ignore the CPD, and announce plans to go forward with the in-person debate as originally planned.
When the CPD officially refuses to host the in-person debate, and withdraws its invitation, the Trump campaign should offer an alternative venue, and moderators of his choosing and extend a serious invitation to VP Biden.
When the Biden campaign declines the Presidents invitation, the Trump campaign should graciously accept Bidens forfeit of the match, and hold a huge rally instead.
No debating empty chairs or cardboard cutouts please - that is beneath the dignity of a President of the United States. If Biden refuses to debate him on his terms - simply accept the forfeit and move on.
Good. I love the debates. And backing out of the next 2 looks week. No virtual. Just do the one on foreign policy as planned, live and not virtual, and then the town hall as planned.
It would be nice if the town hall weren’t all Dem plants and if the moderators weren’t all leftists. Guess that would be asking too much.
It would also be nice if 1/4 of the debates weren’t about climate change which even most Dems don’t care about and certainly the GOP doesn’t.
The plexiglass on stage last night was useless, a joke. These folks are idiots.
Oooooh, I like it, but the owners of the building would probably lock the doors.
Trump should buy the building.
