California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law a bill Wednesday that will establish a task force to study and develop proposals for paying reparations to the descendants of enslaved Black people.
Assembly Bill 3121 calls for a nine-member body to make recommendations on what type of compensation, if any, should be awarded and who should be eligible. In addition, the group can recommend to the state Legislature how California can offer a formal apology "for the perpetration of gross human rights violations and crimes against humanity on African slaves and their descendants" and the elimination of state laws that disproportionately impact Black people.
California has come to terms with many of its issues, but it has yet to come to terms with its role in slavery, said Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a Democrat who authored the bill.

California was never a slave state. We don’t owe anyone a penny for slavery, and in my opinion, no one does anymore. That was all settled through a war.
Cali was never a slave state
No one alive was a slave
There are no slave owners alive
We had thousands of black slave owners
First american slave owner was black
Since the laws now force employers to hire and promote Black candidates first ahead of their peers, is that going to change? Do we go back to promoting and hiring the most qualified candidate again?
All of the former Union States should pay reparations! /sarc
What an idiot: California was never slave state under American governance. Under the previous owner’s rule, the Mexicans and the Spanish before them enslaved the indigenous people - but they aren’t talking about reparations to them (what few are left).

Little governor Quack Peckerwood’s not gonna’ like what’s coming his way. He can’t force us all to be liberals and he’s dreaming if he thinks he can.
Any kid can read a book and blame whitey, it is too easy, but none can read imperfect information into the future and tell the damage this is going to cause the black community
After they are rid of unhappy white males , the happy liberals will go after unhappy black males. This is genocide lite
I think they need to start with his salary and whatever money is spent for his care and upkeep.

Britain abolished slavery in 1833. In 1837 it passed legislation for reparations and created a bond for the purpose. In 2015 the bond was finally paid off. All the former slave owners had been compensated for the loss of their property.
Yeah, but even they signed up for the job.
