California task force will consider paying reparations for slavery

SACRAMENTO —

With Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature, California became the first state government in the country on Wednesday to adopt a law to study and develop proposals for potential reparations to descendants of enslaved people and those impacted by slavery.

Newsom said the new law and bipartisan support for its passage is proving “a paradigm that we hope will be resonant all across the United States.”

In a year of national protests against racial injustice, state lawmakers approved Assembly Bill 3121 to force the state to begin to confront its racist history and systemic disparities that persist today. Although California entered the Union as a “free state” in 1850, slavery continued there after the state Constitution outlawed it the previous year. Slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1865.

The new law creates a task force to recommend appropriate remedies to the state Legislature and determine who should be eligible to receive compensation, which advocates hope will become a model in a country where movements to make amends for centuries of slavery have failed to gain traction at the federal level.

Even many liberals will tire of this, after time.

Of course, it’s all but too late.

Any slave owner still alive from the 1600’s can pay any slave still alive from the 1600’s. I have no problem with that.

Shoot, they can even go up through 1863.

But first we get to minus the money we’ve spent since the 60s via the War on Poverty. Then we’ll talk.

California had nothing to do with slavery. Slavery was illegal in California. The Slave trade had been ended by Thomas Jefferson long before California became a US state. Slavery itself ended 15 years after California joined the Union.

But commies will be commies.

Liberal insanity at its very finest.
But hey, pay em “reparations”. It should consist of what was taken from their ancestors: a spear, a loincloth and a free one-way slow boat ride back to Africa.

Won’t need to be the states if dems ever control the congress and presidency.

Remember..one time Americans were very against gay marriage.

If people want to vote in monsters then they will get what they voted for.

If they want to vote in monsters at the federal level...keep it up..keep mocking God..see what happens.

I wonder if they are going to let the people vote on it, or will they just decide to do it, since they wont be able to trust the public to do the “right” thing.

So, does this include the Chinese railway workers, the Indians the Spanish kept, and the Japanese internees?

Yes, repair whoever wants to be given back to their ancestral home in Africa. I could even go for a few $1000s to get them started there. They renounce US citizenship for themselves and their descendants forever. Would be worth it to get rid of whining America haters.

Hispanics will just love this!!! Not.

The black population of CA will triple.

And no, this will be seen as another monumental fustercluck that is so commonly found only in Cali. No one tries to copy that state any longer.

“Reparations, to whom?”

Answer, from the article:
“descendants of enslaved people and those impacted by slavery”

Many white people were impacted by slavery simply because a slave held a job that otherwise would be open to the job market. Many white people fall into this category.

However the reality of this is that no white person will be receiving any money from this scam operation. “those impacted” are likely relatives of slaves including descendants. This is strictly a race game where those that never held slaves will be paying those that never were slaves. It’s to further divide the country, inching us to CWII.

There’s already Supreme Court case law that you cannot give benefits to people on the basis of their descent. (Believe it or not, some of that is from the No Titles Of Nobility clause.)

For the Japanese reparations issue, it was only those who were actually in the internment camps that got payments.
