In the first presidential debate between President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden, voters who watched Tuesday night say Biden won the debate, but those who watched the heated exchanges overwhelmingly called the debate's tone negative, and most said they felt annoyed watching it.
Forty-eight percent say Biden won, while 41% think Trump was the winner. Biden's margin here is not too different than his lead in national polls. Ten percent called the debate a tie.
Immediately after the debate, the CBS News Battleground Tracker interviewed likely voters nationwide who watched the debate in order to get their reaction.
More than eight in 10 voters who watched describe the debate's tone as negative, including majorities of each candidate's supporters.

That is probably true. But with the dem governors controlling their economies by preventing reopenings d/t covid they are doing their best to prevent the economy from recovering and trying to tank Donald’s reelection.
I was watching the two men physically. Biden stumbled through his answers, squeezing his eyes shut while trying to remember words. He looked puny like he was going to drop over. There were shots of them from the back. Trump looked towering and strong in contrast. It clearly showed the strength of Trump. He was in command .The setting prevented him from saying things that needed to be said. He has had so many accomplishments that had to be told that low information voters have never heard or taken the time to hear and thats why he flung his comments out there when he could.
I’ll get back to you. It’ll take me a while to get through the 100 or so threads on the same damn subject. :-)
I was annoyed, all right
I told my wife the other day I am way over worrying about any cringeworthy Trump comments. Biden, Obama, Clinton all smile and smirk while beguiling people with lies and we yell at the TV wishing someone would call them out. We have Trump doing just that and then we go squishy wishing he would not say all those things. He fights like Grant or Patton and we need someone who just says “NUTS” when asked to surrender, as the media and Democrats are always attempting to get Republicans to do.
I watched. Trump won. He is better at this now than in 2016. He stayed aggressive and didn’t sit back and let Biden lie for 90 minutes unchallenged. Biden looked and sounded feeble.
Put me in the "I don't care" category. We're in a war. I don't want a Neville Chamberlain who prizes dignity and reason above all else.
I want a George Patton. I want someone who is committed to the notion: "A soldier's job is not to die for his country. A soldier's job is to make the enemy die for his country."
Trump is a master of controlled presentation, his debate style is purposeful. I can only guess what his objective was. Testing Biden? Playing to the base? Projecting a president ready to do battle and not one being submissive? Is he focusing on base and not ready to switch to going for independent suburban women until third debate? Does he think women will say they like good guy but always date bad boys?
Needed saying, twice okay with me.
Biden went the distance w/o any KO by Trump. Trump looked rude by interrupting but landed some good punches w/ Antifa, Hunter, Law Enforcement endorsement lines. Biden has the shut up sound bite for his gang. Chris Wallace had a tough job, but failed as he always interrupted Trump when he got on a roll.
So I call it a draw w/ slight possible edge to Biden for exceeding a cognitive ability expectation of zero, but at times look confused w/ BS answers that were off topic. Energy wise he showed he is not physically up for the job. Trump was Trump and defended his record well.
Nobody switched their vote as a result. What Biden has going for him is he is not Trump to many people. They are not enamored with Biden by himself
It needed to be said twice lol
-—but failed as he always interrupted Trump when he got on a roll.——
He (Wallace) wasn’t interrupting Trump, he was helping Biden.
Biden stayed calm? He told the President to shut up several times and called him a clown. That is not a calm response in my world.
I’m watching g the highlights on YouTube and it looks to me like Trump was very articulate and aggressive. He didn’t give any ground up to Biden. Biden at time acted extremely rude and sometimes rambling. He seemed to get lost when talking about when talking about Amy Barret as the Supreme Court nominee.
How heavy did they oversample Dems. Check out the Telemundo poll where 66% said Trump won.
I fully expected the Media to declare Biden the winner. However, I thought Biden looked very weak and old.
Telling people to shut up isn’t very mature. Biden has always been a bully and he showed it in this debate.
Well now that is 2 telling things
Independents and hispanics which translates into mission accomplished for President Trump
