LIVE at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 29: President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden take part in the first presidential debate between the two candidates. The Cleveland, Ohio event is moderated by “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace.
Thanks for the summation. I did not watch the debate, I don’t want to get upset over nothing. Trump will do fine.
As far as the “undecideds” are concerned, I don’t believe the debate they saw tonight (if they watched it at all) will do anything to convince them. It’s all about emotions with some of them, so what sort of emotions does Biden rouse in their breast? Thinking hard on this one.
And also thinking about the rubber-meets-the-road moment of when the ballot is marked. Voting this year will be complicated and weird, depending on your state. More thought and effort will have to be put into it. Important.
Were the expectations for Biden really that low? All he had to do was show up and sit upright in his chair? Really?
Sounds like it wasn’t a fair fight at all. Two against Trump. Trump is not a bully for standing his ground and standing up for himself and his record.
Oh, just as an aside, Biden is getting julienned on some other politics forum.

Biden exceeded expectations but when he looked into the camera I saw a shell of a former human being.

Wallace winds up a big question with a preamble using prior quotes and recent event references, and then tries to string all of that into a "gotcha" question.
The problem is that in a debate, that takes up too much time and the debaters are anxious to get going. As soon as Wallace says something incomplete or out of context, President Trump jumped in to dispute the question.
It's Wallace's own fault for not setting up a simple question and letting the candidates take turns answering. When Wallace asks Trump about "$750 per year income tax," how can Biden fairly answer that question other than to use it to attack Trump?
If Wallace asked "What is your opinion on releasing personal information like tax returns and medical records?" to each of them, that would be a simple and fair question. But he doesn't do that.

Trump won but I don’t think Biden came off to the average voter as having dementia. Probably should modify that strategy if this debate is how the other 2 will go.

Jane....Biden didn’t need the questions ahead....Wallace prepared questions which simply followed all the pat answers Bidens been given all along. Wallace even said he studied Bidens plans to Wallace.
