Two weeks to flatten curve.
Remember that? It was several months ago now.
The deal elected officials struck with the American people was to trade lockdowns for hospital capacity. The fear in the early days of the COVID pandemic was that hospital capacity would be overwhelmed if we didnt lock down, curb activity, and so forth. So we got two weeks to flatten the curve.
New York City built a hospital into its Javits Convention Center. President Trump sent a Navy hospital ship to handle the expected caseload.
None of that capacity was needed. Way back in June, CNN declared that New York had flattened the curve. The Javits no longer has a hospital, and the Navy ship went away. We flattened the curve. To hear the media discuss it, despite New York (city and state) being the site of thousands of COVID deaths, theyre the example the rest of the nation should follow.
Well, Mayor Bill de Blasio has altered the deal.
He tweeted:
"We've made great progress on COVID-19, but we're not done until we hit zero. Heres a look at the numbers:
332 new reported cases
61 patients admitted to hospitals
Citywide positive tests are at 1.93%
Practice social distancing, wear face coverings and avoid large crowds."
The likelihood that we ever get to zero cases is, well, zero. Coronavirus is a virus. Once virii hit human populations, they tend to come and go seasonally. Despite all the promising news weve heard about vaccines lately, vaccines dont mean the virus cases zero out anytime soon if ever.

New York City goes through leftist inspired debt and bankruptcy cycles.
The last one started with Mayor Richard Wagner and massive leftist government, unions and spending in the late 50s and early 60s, which then led John Lindsay to take on massive debt when the NYC economy declined in the late 60s, which then lead Abe Beame into bankruptcy in the mid 70s (and a state control board) and the chaos, riots and decline under Ed Koch in the 70s and 80s.
Things then hit bottom with Koch and Dinkins, and the city rose again with Giuliani.
with De Blasio in charge, this cycle will be much worse. I estimate we are somewhere between John Lindsay and Abe Beame. Bankruptcy is coming.
Zero Democrats in office would be nice.
Most liberals love having the blues
It’s companies and conservatives and right leaning “independents”
who typically pick up and leave because, obviously, they are unhappy and are willing to absorb the cost, friendships, “home” et al to make an interstate move
And then there’s the innercitians, illegals, welfare staters, poor Latinos who are just fine with their lot in life and wouldn’t move, more afford to
We’ve been Balkanized.
Whatever, even though I an get to NYC in a few hours, I have zero plans to go to NYC now or in the future. frankly, I much prefer Boston.
He has basically stated he will now strangle the city to death. And he has about 18 months left to do it.
Zero illnesses. Of any kind. And zero injuries.
The only way he will remove restrictions, is if New York City has utterly no medical conditions of any kind.
And it has to demonstrate that, for a 30 year period.
And even then, he'll make a decision THEN, thank you very much.
We won't rest until COVID is totally eradicated, just like the Asian flu, Hong Kong flu, Swine flu, Bird flu ...
Whoops, forget I said anything...
40 years.
And people are far more mobile today than they were then.
Hows he doing on the regular flu?
“Damn dirty communist”.
BINGO! They’re evil, filthy bastards.
You’re right. Great post.
Excuse me now while I go into panic mode as my sister has mentioned going to Florida...and she takes care of mom half the time!!!
And mom ain’t leaving.
It IS hard to pick up and move. And I LOVED NYC so much once...under rudy it was GREAT.
But you get punched too much and you have to leave with while you haven’t been knocked out yet.
Was this whole thing a dress rehearsal for government to assume dictatorial powers over us in perpetuity?
************
With all due respect, we’re already well beyond the dress rehearsal in this country. Pretty much everything you can think of is now taxed, regulated or controlled by government at some level. Moreover, the congress has abdicated its role of legislating to the Judicial Branch. We are ruled by the dictatorial powers of the robes and bureaucrats.
Congrats ! — to all the liberal leftist that voted this POS into office -— hope you like the taste of “state control gone mad!”
Absolutely pathetic! .... back to the sewers for NYC !!!
I think he’s done. He’s the biggest zero they’ve got.
I can remember a time when we proudly thought of ourselves as Americans. The Left has successfully divided us into tribes.
Just “say” you hit zero, mayor, make it up like you did with the other covid numbers.
There should be “power crazy” ads running nonstop
With quotes coming from the mouths of Blue Mayors and shots of riots, looting, burning and trashed out buildings
I don’t want to make things sound crazy...but with the flight from places like NYC, abandoned properties etc. I would expect to witness a dramatic uptick in rodents. And with rodents comes the bubonic plague. Just yesterday there is an area of China that has a huge area under lockdown due to bubonic plague...
