The New York Times has spun out 10,000 words claiming that Donald Trump paid little or no income tax for many years. The Times says it cant release the actual tax documents lest this compromise its sources, and Mr. Trump denies paying so little but wont release his returns.
Voters can decide whom to believe, but one fact to note is that the story doesnt assert illegal behavior. The IRS presumably signed off on the Trump returns, except in one case in which it is disputing a $72.9 million deduction claimed by Mr. Trump. This is a fight rich people have with the IRS all the time, often ending in Tax Court.
The report makes much of a deduction Mr. Trump took for business consulting fees that match payments his daughter Ivanka reported in separate filings. There may be legitimate reasons for those fee payments, and Ms. Trump ought to clear the matter up.
Is it a scandal if Mr. Trump legally exploited the tax codes treatment of chronic business losses to pay little tax? Hardly. Mr. Trump admitted this himself in a 2016 debate. Congress littered the code with loopholes aimed at assisting real-estate businesses, among others. Democrats write a tax code to please their corporate donors and then selectively attack CEOs or businesses that use the loopholes.
The story also claims that Mr. Trumps empire is under financial stress and rising debt. This may be true, but the reporters cant seem to decide if Mr. Trump is a shark exploiting the White House for personal gain or a sap who is bleeding cash while in office. Brilliant or bumpkin? Make up your mind.
The reports timing is no accident coming in the final weeks of the campaign and two days before the first presidential debate.

Does Trump lose his right to privacy because the NYT does not like him? Bill de Blasio announces investigation into whether Donald Trump paid city taxes saying it's 'a foregone conclusion' that he 'cheated New York City' out of millions. It was a scandal when Nixon used the IRS to investigate political opponents.
So there are adding on to what was basically a nothing burger on Sunday?
And not one word (at least in the excerpt above) about someone’s private tax returns being illegally leaked and published by the press.
How about that.
Let’s see Pelosi’s returns.
This is Banana Republic stuff from NYT. POTUS is riding solo in the swamp. There is no opposition party to the progressive-corportist alliance. Nothing is a crime if the target is Trump and his supporters. Everything can be a “crime” if you support the MAGA agenda.
So says the globalist, crony WSJ.
This is hilarious. Warren Wilhelm Jr, along with the lower Cuomo managed to kill twice as many innocents as the 9/11 terrorists, is virtue signaling?
How much taxpayer money has junior disappeared?
If there is one guy who should be keeping the low pro, its Warren.
Trump is what one commentator called “a transactional man.” That means, yes, I’ll do X, but only if you do Y. No one offered him Y so why would he do X?
I think that the tax thing is a win for Trump. He gets to sue whoever is involved. No one who does taxes will think he did anything wrong. And, pretty much everyone knows that if you have lots of money your taxes will look a lot different than theirs. Plus, the focus is on taxes rather than something that could, possibly, hurt Trump.
Others will do it for him?!?!
Is that how it works?
Release your taxes or others will ILLEGALLY do it for him.
Oh, I see.
Because we're a nation without laws? Screw you WSJ Editorial Board. We want your taxes.
Let the lawsuits begin.
WSJ can shove it.
I wouldnt be so sure that they were illegally leaked. I dont think President Trump himself has even complained about that.
The tax returns were not a nothingburger. The DeepStaters in the IRS/CIA/FIB/wherever, who released the tax returns are criminals and need to be brought to ultimate justice. This release is another step following previously failed insurrectionist attempts to overthrow the government of the United States.
There is a lot of terror in the Swamp.
If the President is re-elected, its Doomsday. President Trump 2.0 wont have to concern himself with reelection. We will see Trump unbound.
Hell be doing a lot more than kicking tables over.
Because the President is under what seems like permanent audit, the law forbids him to release tax information.
No more tax money for you.
Signed President Trump, Florida, USA
Disregard this article. The WSJ editorial board have been globalist swine for as long as I can remember.
DiBlabbio belongs in jail.
“””The Times says it cant release the actual tax documents lest this compromise its sources,”””””””
Or it can’t release them because it is a FELONY to have them so there’ that.
