A door-to-door COVID-19 testing survey has been halted due to multiple incidents in greater Minnesota of residents intimidating and shouting racial and ethnic slurs at state and federal public health survey teams.
The CDC pulled its federal surveyors out of Minnesota this week following reports of verbal abuse and intimidation, including an incident in the Iowa border town of Eitzen, Minn., in which a survey team walking to a house was blocked by two cars and threatened by three men, according to state health officials. One man had his hand on a holstered gun.
Frustration with the state's pandemic response "is totally understandable," said Dr. Ruth Lynfield, state epidemiologist, "but that is distinctly different than taking out frustration on another human being who is trying to help and is especially galling when there is a taint of racism. There is no justification for this — the enemy is the virus and not the public health workers who are trying to help."
Surveyors had been fanning out to 180 neighborhoods this month — offering free diagnostic testing for active COVID-19 infections and blood antibody testing to identify prior infections — to understand the true prevalence of the coronavirus causing the pandemic.

The racial slurs are unforgivable. A simple “please get off my property” would do. But if I lived in risk Minn. and saw the daily lawlessness in my state’s big cities, I might be very early of strangers approaching my door, especially persons of color. Is not BLM on record that they plan to bring violence to the suburbs?

I would never go along with their testing (though I’d refrain from being the first to use racist insults). A positive PCR test could see me locked down for two weeks, while I’m sure that a negative PCR test result (or the presence of antibodies) wouldn’t exempt me from having to wear the mask of servitude. Something to lose, and nothing to gain? Get off my property!
I travel around rural Minnesota for my job. It’s been my observation that the anger towards the state and federal government increases proportionally to the distance to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.
I’ve had tourists visiting from up North wander up to me in the hardware store, curious because they want to drive onto people’s properties to get a photo of some of the interesting livestock, or llamas, peacocks, veggie gardens, etc-but the gates on the driveways are all closed and locked, and no trespassing signs on fences. I tell them we country people lock gates foe safety to keep livestock in and people out-it is private property, no strangers welcome. This article is a perfect illustration of why we have locked gates and firearms...

I’m betting this is fake news meant to vilify rural voters ahead of the election because they are more likely to vote for Trump. That way if he wins Minnesota they can trot out this story about “racism in rural Minnesota”.

It is long past time to stop this stupid testing. What would happen if we did this for the flu? It’s silly it’s just a way to prolong this to the election. If you’re sick you could go to your doctor and have whatever test the dr. thinks needs to be done. this would all go away if they stop the stupid testing.
Probably is, so another reason not to get tested. I had to get a swab test before a medical procedure back in June, though, so if they want my DNA they have it already.
Who knows the recipients of the “racial slurs”...I don’t think black people like this intrusion any more than white people do, and they could have been shouting insults at the Karens.
