I disagree.
You are free to say whatever you want but NOT free to scream it in someone face.
Especially someone working to protect your rights to scream obscenities.
If a person walks up to you in a mall and starts screaming at you how he wants to kill you 2 inches from your face, what would you do?
That is the definition of assault. Battery would be if the actually touch you.
Any suggestions on affordable housing on the Western Panhandle of FL? Might be time for a move.
And the Dems and media tried to sell us Gilliam......
I am so happy I voted DeSantis.
I'll magnify and personalize the point. Let's say a person starts screaming in your face and then follows you around for a long period of time doing that.
Surely that would be harassment, right?
Once these things are in place they may not ever be used. People who organize and partipate in riots are averse to consequences to themselves and will not disturb things. Remember that first rash of riots. Jacksonville Florida got its Riot, too. It lasted a couple of hours. Jacksonville police acted like police and a bunch of folks got arrested and charged with stuff like arson and property destruction. Jacksonville has some of the most dangerous ghettos in the state and some very violent inhabitants but such keep it to their own neighborhoods and unorganized when faced with real consequences.
” Just wish Abbott would follow DeSantis lead here in Texas.”
I’m sure once the parade starts, Grabbot will get in front of it and claim credit for the whole thing.
Not even if you threw in 3 Republican Senators!
A finger is a weapon. If someone is hovering their fingers around your eyes (menacing?) that should be considered assault or, if they hit you, assault and battery.

Agreed.
Yes, but the point of discussion was the police, not an individual.
If it matters for the individual, then it matters for the individuals working as police and it matters for the police as a group who are the blue thin line who are defending law and order.
My objection is to the criminalization of yelling at police. No problem. From a distance.
Yelling/name calling/threatening police in their face and doing nothing about it only invites more of the same and then escalates from there.
There's a point where being the (only) nice guy has to end.
In their role as agents of the state they must be held to a slightly higher standard. Again, the accoster cannot touch or interfere, but while on duty, they must exhibit decorum.
If the accoster follows once off duty, charge harassment.
I didn’t expect anyone to take that deal. That Nazi *itch is horrible.
I would say the same standard. They are there to help protect our liberty. Any harasement of them is an harassment on our liberties.
Because of that, there are some who would even say that the standard should be even less.
Yelling/name calling/threatening police in their face and doing nothing about it only invites more of the same and then escalates from there.

These rioters are trained to do this. Just as they are trained to screech and scream if they get arrested or any cop so much as lays a finger on them. I’ve watched enough of the riot vids to see how they all respond like clockwork to nothing at all, while being able to scream in someone’s face for 20 minutes straight.
It is calculated and likely has been vetted by the Antifa attorneys as just skirting the legalities.
Note that once it would cause a "reasonable man" to assume it's a sign of intent to do physical harm to him now or in the future, it's assault, which is criminal, and potentially a felony--even if it's just words, and not yet deeds.
Do you want to deify the state?
Police officers are agents - and the face of - the state. Once off duty, they are citizens.
Do NOT give the state more protection than the people. Think, for a change.
Blocking the road is a felony? My hero!!
It actually depends if they are threatening you or not. In the case you present, yes its assault. What if they come up to you and scream You are a racist a-hole!? Thats no so clear cut. Threatening someone is a crime; insulting someone is not. Your best course of action is to walk away in this case. You have the right to defend yourself against a threat, but if you punched the person insulting you in my scenario, YOU are the one whos getting arrested. If they come after you, then its probably a good case for harassment, but youre still better off calling the police if the persons not actually threatening you.
My point was that the act of screaming in someones face in and of itself is not a criminal act. Its speech. Being threatened gives you the right to self defense; being insulted does not. Threatening someone is a criminal act; insulting someone is not. Its no different if its a cop being insulted. Insulting a cop just simply is not a criminal act, even if you are screaming insults in his face. Like I said, if they continue to harass the cop after he walks away, if they threaten the cop, or if they prevent him from doing his duty, they probably can be charged with crimes. Im also not defending someone who engages in this behavior; its despicable behavior, but it isnt criminal behavior without the addition of actual threats.
Obviously, its highly doubtful that any of these mostly peaceful protesters would be capable of interacting with a cop without threatening and/or harassing them, so this probably is a moot point anyway.
