Breonna Taylor shooting: Video purportedly shows tense moments after officer was struck by gunfire

A new video has emerged purportedly showing the tense moments after Louisville Police Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly was struck by gunfire while responding to Breonna Taylor’s apartment on the night she was killed.

In the bodycam footage – which attorney Todd McMurtry tells Fox News he received from Mattingly – an officer is heard repeatedly yelling “put him on the trunk” while colleagues purportedly escorted Mattingly away from the scene of the shooting for medical attention. Mattingly reportedly said a bullet struck his femoral artery and he later had to undergo surgery.

“They called him a ‘murderer,’ when all he did was defend himself,” McMurtry said in a tweet accompanying the video.

In a separate statement to Fox News, McMurtry said he represents “John in his affirmative claims against people who slandered him by calling him a ‘murderer.’”

Police in the video can also be heard saying “grab under his arms” and “cover him, let's go” as they move the wounded officer. “Go a little faster,” one then says.

The footage of Mattingly began after officers applied a tourniquet to his injured leg, according to news WAVE3.

As of Friday, Mattingly remains on leave following the death of Taylor on March 13. Interim Police Chief Robert Schroeder did not reveal Thursday during a virtual news briefing when Mattingly would report back to work.

The scum known as the democrats put cops in this situation. It does not care about cops lives.

[a bullet struck his femoral artery]

He could have bled out in minutes, if not treated promptly by medical personnel. Not surprised the grand jury declined to prosecute.

It has gotten to the point that whenever any black criminal is shot, the police have to release all information ASAP that can show context, before the riots start. They need to work on PR before the riots start and become the norm wherever the shooting takes place.

I don’t get it. The article states, “the officers initated a no-knock warrant.”

The warrant was for no-knock, but they knocked and identified themselves as police officers.

With a no knock especially, there should be BODY CAMS required to protect all parties involved.

No body cam on for no knock but body cam for cop being carried to car, get him out of there, etc.

Body cams should be mandatory going forward with the climate of “protests, hate, riots, etc.

People are questioning the “they knocked and announced” makes no sense since it takes lot of red tape, evidence to get a Judge to do a no knock. Why go through all of that and then be nice and knock and announce. According to AG a witness near the apartment heard the police knock and announce. NO body cam, etc showing they did or did not.

News media needs to be held accountable for fueling riots. If they simply reported the story and didn’t spend days/weeks/months giving opinions about this specific case, there wouldn’t be riots. These talk shows that lose as news should be forced to carry a warning that is it opinion not facts.

There wasn’t the bodycam video at the link. Does anyone have it. I did a fruitless search.

It's one paragraph, added to the warrant. No much red tape or effort required. Why should Judges care, it isn't their home.

Why would Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly release this. The DA said there was video that came from patrol officers videos that arrived at the scene. If this video came from others sources than that, like another officer on the warrant operation, I’m sure he will be displeased.

What would it matter? The press is more than happy to lie in order to stoke racial hatred, riots, and violence.

The police should be immediately releasing bodycam recordings and other contextual evidence whenever an officer shoots *anyone* of any race. See the Justine Damond case.

I serve high risk warrants often. Adding the no knock is not always hard. It depends on the area judges.

However, just because it is there does not mean you can’t knock. You feel it out and make the call. Apparently, they knocked and got shot up.

Maybe bad call. Maybe bad info. We wont know for a bit and should hesitate to go outside our knowledge base.

(And, generally, detectives do not wear BC. Or I never see it.)

Going to have to be a lot less breaking down the door at 12:30am by the police going forward. You break down my door in the early AM while I am sound asleep I may take a shot in your direction too...takes 2-3 minutes to be awake enough from a deep sleep to hear/understand the announcement/knocking! (If any, may be a “no-knock”).

Thank you for your perspective and explaining about use of no knocks, body cams, etc. Just have to wait and see if and when more information comes available to the public.

What do most people think when their door breaks down in the middle of the night? You hear a bunch of people yelling "police"? Well, for most people, there isn't sufficient illegal activity or stuff at their house to in any way justify a raid, so why would the police be doing so? Ipso facto, obviously it's someone pretending to be a cop while breaking in, so the best course of action is to grab the shotgun and end the threat as quick as possible.
