Despite Trump’s actions against immigrants, these Latino voters want four more years (WaPo worried)
Washington Post ^ | 09/24/2020 | Paulina Villegas

Gabriela Saucedo was 22 years old when she arrived in the United States from Mexico in pursuit of the American Dream. Through years of hard work and perseverance, she managed to build a successful life in Arizona. Now, at 56, she believes President Trump is the best candidate to keep that dream alive.

Saucedo is among a coalition of Republican Latinos in the battleground state of Arizona who believe having President Trump for a second term would guarantee their concerns and conservative social values — centered around the economy and faith — are protected and maintained.

“I want to have the opportunity to continue with my American Dream, that is why I came to this country as an immigrant,” said Saucedo, who became an American citizen in 1991 and is running for a position on the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

The Latino support for Trump could be deemed counterintuitive considering he rose to power on an anti-immigration platform and inflammatory rhetoric. In the 2015 speech that launched his presidential campaign, Trump called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and drug dealers. In the years following his election, images of immigrant children in overcrowded detention centers dominated the news. The coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately affected and killed people in the Latino community.

Yet many of his Latino supporters in the Copper State, overwhelmingly of Mexican descent, point to Trump’s business-oriented policies such as lowering taxes and lifting regulations as more consequential actions that, they say, have benefited wages and employment levels in their communities. This, along with religious conservatism — particularly antiabortion stances — are the reasons they want to see him reelected.

The rationale illuminates the different ways Latinos, predicted to become the largest group of non-White voters, are impelled to cast their vote...

I've said it before but I think the Latino vote is going to be a surprise this year. The Democrats have totally ignored them, instead favoring a 24/7/365 BLM message.

b/c legal Latinos are having their jobs and treasure stolen by illegals MORE than non-Latinos (Citizen and Green Card).

The Latinos complaining about stopping illegal aliens are: ILLEGAL ALIENS!

They still have no idea how racist it is for them to assume that the cause of illegal immigrants is the cause of all Americans of Hispanic descent.

WaComPost doesn’t get it because they are unable to discern the difference between ‘illegal alien’ and ‘legal immigrant’. They deliberately conflate the two dissimilar statuses and get confused because they drink the Kool-Aid they’re pouring for everyone else.

The reader comments at WaPo are absolutely appalling. No surprise there.

Hey WaPo, millions of Latinos in Texas were there long before Texas became a state. Latino doesn't neccesarily mean immigrant.

The title itself is racist. Why wouldn’t Latino Americans be concerned about enforcing legal immigration? I can almost hear Joe from his basement, “Tu no eres...”

It must be tiring to be the Washington Post.

They spent many years whitesplaining to the dumb "Native Americans" why Redskins is so offensive to them and they're just too dumb to know it. Every time they would poll the "Native American" community, large majorities (in the 90 percent range) would say it wasn't offensive and the most common adjective they chose for the name was "proud." So the Post would patiently explain away their own poll and whitesplain to the dumb Indians that it was offensive, even if the community impacted said it wasn't. Aftger all, they know better. They're rich, white, elitist progressvies, aftger all.

Now they have to whitesplain to a bunch of dumb Latins why they are not allowed to support President Trump and therefore do not do so, even if they say they do. They have to whitesplain to these dumb Hispanics why Trump is a racist whom they cannot support, becuase the dumb Hispanics are apparently too dumb to understand the wisdom and compassion of the rich, white, elitist progressives.

It's a hard job.

The WaPo needs to read up on some history. Texas used to be part of Mexico before they fought a war to gain independence from Mexico. Then later on joined the US. Latinos have been in Texas long before the Anglos and the Germans and the Italians etc. They are not “immigrants “. They've been there for hundreds of years.

They are essentially the equivalent of union members rejecting non-union scabs. How is that counter-intuitive? What WaPo is doing is the equivalent of telling union members that when their union rep criticizes non-union scabs, he is criticizing union members. For the longest time, Democrats have suppressed wages stateside by pushing for open borders and suggesting that unlimited increases in labor supply have no effect on wages. The wage increases labor has seen from border control is working against the Democratic narrative. That is why so many rank and file workers are now rebelling against the narrative that the entry of unlimited scab labor from abroad is good for them. And that is why they are voting for Trump. Their angle isn’t religion - it’s better wages for them and their kids even if their particular job category is either non-union or lacks a strong union.

Latino families are sick of hearing BLM and watching everything burn. They want safe families and schools.

The racists at Washington Post think all Latinos are alike, and can’t, for example, distinguish ones in the US legally from ones here illegally.

Why would legal immigrants, who played by the rules, want illegal immigration?

It would only be for racist reasons, more Latinos, means more power.

The reader comments at WaPo are absolutely appalling. No surprise there.

White liberals understand that they know what's best for minorities and have a responsibility to correct them for their wrong-think. It is a burden they must bear.

Washington Post refuses to use the right and correct wordage...President Trump used the word ILLEGAL in his campaaign and also used the word ILLEGAL when talking about Mexican rapists and drug dealers...
