CNN: Yeah, McConnell Is About to Go 3-0 With Trump SCOTUS Picks

Mitch McConnell Is the Stuff of Democrats’ Nightmares If he wasn’t already. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will soon be a permanent fixture in the nightmares of Democrats.

After President Trump took office, McConnell went from being a useless GOP leader who is only concerned that everyone at the Capitol Hill Club is having a polite time into Super Republican. Should this all go away in November, never let it be said that Cocaine Mitch didn’t make the most of his time as majority leader.

McConnell is well-positioned to have his majority place a third conservative justice on the Supreme Court in three years. If successful, it will be the crowning achievement of the reshaping of the American judiciary that he and President Trump have been busy with almost from the moment Trump was sworn in.

Early Tuesday morning, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham — another Republican who’s undergone a stunning transformation — said that the majority already has the votes to confirm Trump’s nominee.

CNN’s Chris Cillizza agrees. He says:

"We won’t even know who President Donald Trump’s pick to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court will be until late this week, but we know now for (almost) certain that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) has the votes to confirm the pick to the court.

The last 72 hours have made that much clear. On Tuesday morning, Utah Sen. Mitt Romney announced that he supports a vote on Trump’s nominee. “I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the President’s nominee,” he said in a statement. “If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications.”

if Trump wasn’t supposed to appoint so many Supreme Court Justices, then why are there so many vacancies under his watch?

If Trump is reelected, Thomas and Breyer replacement will make it 5-0

Notwithstanding his failings, McConnell has achieved stupendously in his ability to improve the judiciary. This has been invaluable to Trump and perhaps the key to his reelection.

His re-election will likely result in at least two more appointments....three, if rumors about the wide latina’s health are true.

It seems Mitch took Harry Reid’s decision to dump judicial filibusters REAL personally.

No, his crowning achievement will be to hold the senate and work with a re-elected Trump to put another 300 on the Federal bench and another 2-3 on SCOTUS.

I might be “remembering” incorrectly, but didn’t Alito float rumors of retirement?

without even reading this thread, I am supremely confident that someone (or likely several someones) have found a way to spin this into a republican party hate thread.

. . . and a side bet that the whole thing is somehow the bush’s fault.

It would be nice if Roberts could be persuaded to step down too.

I know this sounds wrong, but I would like to see Justice Thomas retire while DJT is in office. He’s done yeoman’s work and deserves to live out a happy retirement, unlike the hateful RBG that clings to life and power over others’ lives until the bitter end.

The Bush’s are so yesterday. Nobody is even thinking of them in any relevant way today.

Not to mention well over 200 lower court judges.

Unfortunately, I see Justice Clarence Thomas as the next to step down :( It will be very difficult to find someone like him. He’s a real gem.

Of course, he'll need a Republican senate to confirm the appointment.

Well, technically one of them popped up on Obama's watch but Trump took Obama's lunch money and added 'now I'll be having that SCOTUS pick too'

I agree — he’s the best. I hope Trump has someone great in mind for that seat. Big shoes to fill.

It was a weird story, in fact an attack from a guy running for the senate in West Virginia as a Republican.

He was Don Blankenship, a coal company president with a checkered past, to say the least.

He hated McConnell for not protecting him and said that when he won his seat (he did not win) he would remove McConnell from the Leader’s chair.

As part of his attack he alleged that the father of McConnell’s wife Elaine Chao was using his shipping empire to supply cocaine to the United States. (Chao’s father is in fact a very wealthy shipping magnate.)

However the story that McConnell was involved, or that the shipments had even occurred, or that Chao as the owner of the shipping line would risk his company to be a small time drug trafficker lacked credibility and the tagline Cocaine Mitch soon became a joke, even to McConnell.
