President Trump plans to meet with shortlisted Supreme Court candidate Barbara Lagoa during a campaign visit to Florida on Friday, according to two sources familiar with his plans.
What we're hearing: Sources who know both Trump and Lagoa say they still expect the president to pick Judge Amy Coney Barrett, but they view the Lagoa meeting as a wild card because they say she has a charismatic personality that would appeal to Trump.
The majority view in Trumps inner circle is that Barrett would be easier to confirm because senators are familiar with her. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has told Trump that senators feel comfortable with Barrett. A source close to the process said anything that complicates the confirmation proceedings and allows more time for Democrats to inject mischief is to be avoided at all costs. More education would be needed for senators who are less familiar with Lagoa, the source added.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Amy Coney Barrett.
But you're right. We never can tell. Even David Souter was picked by the Federalist Society.
Im leaning towards Barrett. However, Lagoa was excellent in her senate confirmation hearing. Watch some highlights here, particularly video 19, with Ted Cruz, where she analogizes a living constitutional approach to communist Cuba -
Lagoa would solidify florida and help in Arizona and Colorado. It would also upend democrat claims of racism and add further to our Hispanic vote gains. Of course, the best candidate should be selected. If Trump says its Lagoa, I trust him and it will benefit the campaign on many levels.
“We never can tell.”
But we can be certain that whomever it is will be better than Ginsburg.
My thoughts are he will nominate her now and when another justice retires he will nominate Amy. I have read in the past that Thomas wants to retire but not under a democrat.
“how well do they really know her? Consensus in Washington is also a bad sign. Britt Grant should at least we studied Mr. President”
Nominate Amy Comey Barrett not some Sally come lately proposed at the last minute.
I never knew that. That is a great woman.
But I think he cant be seated until Nov 30th
How likely is it that Trump would wait all week to make his decision for a Saturday announcement?
And would his team want to spring a semi-surprise announcement on Saturday, if possible, to minimize the time that their opponents would have to gear up for and start a targeted attack against her?
So I am wondering whether the Barrett and Lagoa meetings and meeting leaks are planned to say, “Thank you and you may still be on my radar for a pick next term”—while letting, say, Joan Larsen, slip in less expectedly.
He knows, but he is waiting, "out of respect" for rbg, and her journey into the 9th ring.
We all need to cry for rbg's soul, in her case, it may be sole. Or sold out.
I’m sure the Democrats already have paid liars lined up to testify against both candidates.
I wonder when is RBG’s memorial service? I assume it’s before Saturday’s announcement. I’d like to get the proclamation of her sainthood over with so we can move on with replacing her.
this is true. Dem’s will prefer the breeder to the anti communist.
No, that’s not my point.
How likely is it that he would wait until a Friday interview with Lagoa on a decision for a Saturday announcement?
Not very IMO.
I just don’t want any Catholics to be influenced by Roberts and turn into social justice warriors...is Lagoa Catholic?
Breyer is 81. Maybe he will retire before Oct 5 and Logoa can step in ...
Meeting on Friday? Sounds like a matter of form.
Barrett is easier to confirm because she ALREADY had a thorough vetting when she became a Federal judge,
We don’t need a repeat of the Kavanaugh hearings & delays.
Save Lagoa for the next USSC nomination ...one is coming soon...
Trump has “his own arrows in HIS quiver’.....
If such transgressions were not already on Judge Judy-—there is nothing to ask her.
Well. If they want to avoid mischief as Axios talks about, maybe they should avoid hearings all together and just vote on the nominee the day Trump makes the announcement.
