Interesting theories I have read:

1: The Democrats have already promised to pack the court before RBG died so their threats are not credible.
2: The Democrats with what they did to Kavanaugh provided some spine to the likes of Romney in dealing with the SCOTUS.

51 votes for what?

To hold the vote? or confirm as yet unnamed candidate?

Romney is a yes. That was the basis for the whole article if you go to the source.

Trump has 5 good candidates. The nominee doesn’t need to be Amy Coney Barrett, but the Senate confirmed her in 2017. To hold the vote (which they have now confirmed) should be to confirm her. How could they not?

Do it before the election. No need for a circus. Just have the vote.

Well, that is good news about Romney, I really thought he would be a problem. Mormons are very pro-life and want constitutionalists on the court. That may have influenced Romney’s decision. Either way, it is a good decision and I applaud him.

“Is Romney a yes?”

No.

Romney is a “yes let’s have a vote”, not “I will vote yes”.

Sounds like it. Even if here he’s just talking procedurally, he’d have no reason to rush the vote if he’s going to vote against. He’d be somewhere between silent and urging going slow.

Apparently even the RINOs can see the writing on the wall.

Both Murkowski and Collins voted FOR Barret in 2017. That they would withhold their vote would be a dereliction of duty.

I was kind of hoping for a 50-50 tie, broken by a VP vote.

He also said he would vote based on qualifications. The top two candidates are well qualified, have no baggage and one has already been vetted and received Mitt’s vote to confirm her for the 7th Circuit.

This likely will mean that the two RINO women will probably reverse themselves after their attempt to derail the confimration failed. They will not want to stand alone against a motivated base which will rightly label them as traitors.

Speaking of Kavanaugh, I heard a commentator on TV saying, that there is still some bitterness at how the Democrats turned the Kavanaugh hearings into a circus, and some Republicans see moving forward now as part of getting even with Democrats for what they did to Kavanaugh.

I was talking the other day to someone; I didn’t know her political views. But she said how she worries because since Trump put “a rapist” on the Supreme Court, she worries who else Trump will put on the court.

I called “time out” , and asked her, who is the rapist on the Supreme Court, and she went into the whole Christine Ford story, how Trump picks people of bad character, how Republicans clearly don’t care about character issues, etc.

All of us here know that the Democrats turned the Kavanaugh hearings upside down for partisan political purposes. But some people were influenced to think that Kavanaugh is a criminal. On that score, Democrats scored political points with a segment of the public, even though Kavanaugh was eventually confirmed.

Yes, a betrayal of their constituents.

Romney loses his leverage and his power if he allows the GOP to become a minority party. He needs a close Senate with the GOP in control for the national media to salivate over his every word.

Even that would give Pence a chance to vote though. Looks like we got it if the dem violence coming up doesn’t frighten them.
