Its nothing new for political religions to produce radicals that develop their own sects or cults. This time around, rigid devotion to enforcing mask compliance has produced runaway fanaticism based on nothing but blind faith that more mask-wearing is always better. Even the public health experts, whom these followers all promoted as great prophets just months ago, cant tame their fervor.
Thats a problem, because a return to normalcy will require subduing radical factions that agitate for oppression. Restrictions such as mask mandates are like oxygen to followers of radical fundamentalist Covidianism the abiding belief that only lockdowns, social distancing, and masks can deliver us from the deadly pandemic. The longer mandates stay in place and experts continue promoting mask use My mask protects you! Your mask protects me! the stronger and more widespread the extremism will grow, and the less influence experts will have over their behavior.

I agree....and letting colleges play football makes it all the more so. This is all such a farce.
Roger that.
I hear ya. Oh wait; I don't wear a mask except in a hospital or clinic.
Diapers Required signs are everywhere out here in Newsom’s Terrorland; I just ignore them. A few times since the mask fad caught on in May I’ve been required to leave a business which I’ve done after explaining that my diaper in the car is working just as well as the mask being worn by the (usually) lisping young lad who is minding my business, but much more often then not nobody says anything (and I simply ignore any looks or stares that come from offended busybodies) . This may be the result of my well-practiced close-to-the-edge, I-don’t-give-a-smelly-newsom demeanor I project.
I haven't worn a mask once since the Wuhan Panic started. I won't wear one. I will not participate in the Wuhan Panic or their psychological experiment on the American People. I site health reasons and the ADA to shut up the Mask Police. Then I say My favorite line from "The Prisoner": "I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is My own."

I am 81 and have a ‘legitimate’ excuse to not wear it, BESIDES, according to ALL the original experts I am DEAD because I didn’t hunker down and went about life as usual, working my few days a week.
(I tell people I got a fake ID saying I am 63)
ANYHOOO, I wear my Vietnam cap and have a built in scowl and the ‘Mask(hall)monitors’ probably (rightfully so) figure I will ‘chew them out’ for accusing me of not being able to read if they were to ‘ask’.
(We all know the snow flakes our kids age (and enough in our age group) that were taught or figure that ALL Vietnam Vets are BatSchiff Crazy)
My ‘other’ plan is that if someone starts jawing at me about mask, I will point to my ears then mouth and indicated I don’t understand them...THEN, when they pull their mask down to continue barking at me I will ask “Why are you messing with me, YOU don’t have a mask on”
People don’t remember the days when anything had to be done on the house (I did driveways) and the HUSBAND had to sign the contract OR when I used to go ANYPLACE in downtown DC with a clipboard and my ‘scowl’ and could get in most any building..just by mumbling something...
Of course that was PRE Clinton and Timothy McVay who finally succeeded in convincing the world that just because a Vet or ‘edumacated’ made you a ‘good’ person
“Invisa-mask!” Now that is funny!
I have actually started wearing a bodycam in public to document any Mask Karens who get out of line.
Trump needs to pivot back from the dark side.
Same in an Eastern Nevada Smith's store, but WalMart still has 'em.
I took a Smith's "Shopping Experience" survey and told 'em the one-way aisles took away from "my shopping experience". Two weeks later, they were gone. ??? :-)
I also mentioned that the masks gave their clerks headaches, and questioned the usefulness of having them behind a plastic screen while they use bare hands to scan the products others have handled. They haven't got back to me on that one.
Please let me know when you get a Karen on cam.
I think the Karen / Mask Fanatics thing is very rare and overexaggerated much like the Virus and cops killing black people.
In my area I do not see any mask fanatics at all, people do not care if you wear a mask or not.
Ask why the rules dont mandate full face coverage and they often allow your nose to hang out, or even let your mask hang off your neck by the strap. With real chemical and bio hazards, you cover your whole face, even your eyeballs.
Its the rules that are a joke. Going by those rules would result in you getting poisoned in real life.
So the virus can be active on a used mask for several days?
Hazardous medical waste?
“So the virus can be active on a used mask for several days?”
Up to one day on cardboard. Cardboard masks are da bomb by the way.
If I encounter a ‘Karen’ at the grocery store, I plan on growling or barking at them. What the hell...right?
I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anyone using a cardboard mask.
You don’t have to lie...if challenged, you reply: ‘The mask mandates provide an exemption for certain medical conditions’; then go about your business. You haven’t lied, and they will back off lest they ‘violate’ HIPPA.
Shortly after this silliness started I walked into the grocery store flaunting my sinfully naked face. The guy at the door started to say something to me. I flashed him a smile and said, "ADA" and kept walking.
Have used the same process in every other store and have had no trouble.
Did have a male shopper try to tell me that "you have to wear a mask" as I was walking into another store. I flashed him a smile and said cheerfully, "No, you don't" and kept walking.
The power of No.
Use it or lose it.
