Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has made a bold commitment to a vote this year to confirm President Trumps nominee to fill the seat of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose death Friday has upended the elections.
The Kentucky Republican will have a tougher time fulfilling this commitment, though, than he did with his 2016 promise to block President Obamas pick.
Two Republicans, Sens. Susan M. Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, have said they will oppose any effort to install a Trump nominee until they see who wins the presidential election.
With Republicans holding an effective 53-47 edge in the Senate, that leaves Mr. McConnell with room for only one more defection.
Justice Ginsburg, on her deathbed, dictated a statement to her granddaughter saying it was her most fervent wish that her seat not be filled until a new president is sworn into office in January. Democrats, including presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, say Mr. Trump and the Republican-led Senate should honor that wish.
But Mr. Trump is moving quickly. He said a nominee will be named this week, and it will be a woman.
We won. And we have an obligation, as the winners, to pick who we want, the president said Saturday.

All Trump has to do is use the very workds of scumer and other dems and obama right back at them.
Its all on tape, we al saw it, heard it, lived it.
Our side knows history. We know how it works.
Well if the queen of abortions said we should wait then we should wait.
I would say she can drop dead but there’s no need to :-)
Somebody once said elections have consequences
...which doesn't mean squat. What has become of the Washington Times?
The headline is not justified by the story
By the logic of the Left, Congress (both houses) should not pass any legslation until a new president is seated.
Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg was also on her deathbed during the Obama occupation. She should have resigned back then.
A wild card Senator to watch is Mike Lee. He will not be the 3rd to abstain. But, if the dems can sway a 3rd he would very likely be the 4th and the 4th kills any Trump SC nominee.
Why do I say watch out for Lee to be the killer? Because for nearly 4 years he has repeatedly tried to pass legislation to flood the US Tech market with cheap tech visa labor and he has been thwarted repeatedly but, he just keeps trying.
It would not be a shock at all if he chose to use such an opportunity as this to blackmail his legislation into law.
Collins is a moron if she votes no for reelection reasons. Dems are already targeting her. A ‘no’ gets her next to nothing from the left. What she actually needs is to not piss off R’s and get them to stay home. Maybe GOTV some that were going to stay home before.
Getting another woman on the Supreme Court is more important than indulging Democrat preferences.
Fill the seat. Quick.
There is a big difference between a senator voting no or abstaining!
A vote of no adds to the leftist side while abstaining does not!
An example would be: If 6 senators abstained, 53-6 that would leave the count at 47-47 with Pence as the tie breaker.
I could be terribly wrong but that is how I understand it!?
The whole “deathbed wish” is a pantload.
Now the dims have to live with it.
Why is it only Republicans that have defectors? Chicks and girlymen.
He will deserve a racist tag then and I wont stick up for him.
Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg was also on her deathbed during the Obama occupation. She should have resigned back then.
Actually, saying she was a racist as well as a communist is redundant. All communists are racists.
They said there shouldnt be a vote. They have no say on vote or no vote before Nov 3. They did not say they would vote no on a candidate presented to they who has a stellar legal resume
Ginsberg didn’t say none of that gibberish on her deathbed.
RATS made it up. RBG didn’t own that seat. She vacated the seat and life.
RIP RBG
