Van Morrison has described the British government as fascist bullies disturbing our peace in one of three new tracks he has written to protest against safety measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
On No More Lockdown, Morrison sings:
No more lockdown / No more government overreach / No more fascist bullies / Disturbing our peace No more taking of our freedom / And our God-given rights / Pretending its for our safety / When its really to enslave
The song also condemns celebrities telling us what were supposed to feel, although the 75-year-old Northern Irish songwriter denied doing this himself.
Im not telling people what to do or think, he said in a statement. The government is doing a great job of that already. Its about freedom of choice. I believe people should have the right to think for themselves.

And still sounds good.
I like Van even more now.
Loved “Blue Money” from 1971. Didn’t know what it was about until later.
IIRC Van has been a pretty devout Christian for some time.

Doesn’t look like it. Looks like he belongs to this place, which unfortunately doesn’t mention anything about Christ on their website. Looks like a cult.
Agape International Spiritual Center
Truly one of the great classics. Remember what I was doing when I first heard it on KNUZ-AM Houston.
Please be kind. I know what you mean.
For some reason unknown to people like me who own around 35 of his cds, he has suddenly become active and has recorded a new studio album each year lately. Also allowing reissues and remastering after decades of being reluctant. And two hardcover books of his lyrics (about 20% of them).
And two new books about him to go with the small shelf of them I have already.
God bless him for supporting freedom against lockdowns.
Thanks for not getting too graphic on this family friendly web forum. Just kidding.
Well I was still at school that day, high school and had been running track. How’s that? Had just came off the track was going through the gym on the way to my way to coaches office when that song came on the radio and thinking wow I like the sound.
Just goes to show how decent the people are on FR. Knew it all the time.
He’s apparently one of those guys who disappear off the charts for years, then suddenly boom! There he is again, and a whole new generation is introduced to his music...... Kinda like Cat Stevens.................
