State College police have cited 43 people with violating coronavirus safety measures since the borough approved an emergency ordinance last month.
The ordinance, which went into effect Aug. 17, limits social gathering sizes and requires face masks in public, among other regulations.
In a Thursday news release, State College officials said 43 citations have been issued to people who have broken the rules.
Twenty-three violations reported to police between Sept. 713 resulted in seven citations, officials said.
The consequence of disobeying the safety measures is a $300 fine and court costs.
The hope is to achieve compliance from everyone; however, police and other enforcement officers will continue to issue citations for violations of the ordinance, the borough said in the release.
State College said it launched an educational campaign on the ordinance after it went into effect. This involved creating a one-page flyer on the safety measures, which was distributed on the Penn State campus, to landlords and through social media.

It's stop when the country elects Biden. All of it. The school closures, the lockdowns, the masks, cancelled sporting events. It all goes away when we do the right thing and say no to Bad Orange Man.
We're being punished.
College campuses will become the new gulags. Why not? Those running them are communists, after all.
‘If police keep this up they wont have any allies.’
they will keep it up; this is easy work for them, harassing law abiding citizens...as for allies, they’re not the ones signing their paychecks...
‘The idiocy will come to a complete halt on Nov. 4 mark my words!!’
nope, don’t think so; political power tripping transcends any election, and these little dictators aren’t giving up the thrills associated with telling you what to do...
Agreed!!!
On point video about the real numbers on covid-19, and the control measures in place have no positive impact on covid-19 spread.
‘Compliance’ in State College? Better luck herding cats!
The average ‘positive’ rate is 6%. So, say, 3 out of 50?
