U.S. retail spending rises in August for 4th straight month

Sept. 16 (UPI) — Consumer spending in the United States rose during August, which was the fourth straight month spending increased, government figures showed Wednesday.

The Commerce Department said in a report that retail and food services sales were up 0.6% last month, to $537.5 billion.

The August total was 5.1% higher than it was last year, and the increase from July was 2.4% higher year-to-year, the department said.

Month-to-month growth in August was slower than it was In July (0.9%), signaling a slight downturn in spending.

We’re getting back on our feet. The Dems are holding up the second stimulus checks and more....trying to keep any growth down. And the Dem Govs aren’t helping....especially here in NY.

Yes this is probably the real reason the Chuck and Nancy killed the second checks. They are desperate to keep the growth down and I don’t think it is going to work. It just makes them look like fools.

With all the deficit spending how much of this percent increase is simply things costing more?

Food prices, meat especially, has definitely shot up. Can’t speak to Lysol or Clorox wipes prices since there hasn’t been any of those here since Feb.

Red States are probably doing fine. Blue & Purple States? Not so much.

I’m doing almost ALL of my shopping on-line these days. It’s amazing what they’ll deliver to you, usually for FREE.

I hate to shop as it is. On-line makes it slightly less annoying.

I can’t say I’ve been spending more than in past months, though.
