The country is heading into a three-week nearly total lockdown on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the government determined on Sunday after more than seven hours of heated debate. The closure will go into effect at 2 p.m. on Friday and last through October 9. During the lockdown, the school system will remain closed, except for special education and programs for at-risk youth. People will not be able to venture more than 500 meters from home. Restaurants, shopping centers and businesses that offer leisure and recreational activities will be shut down. There are detailed regulations that the government will approve in the next two days, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained during a briefing held shortly after the vote. I know these steps will take a heavy toll, that this is not the holiday we are used to, and that we will certainly not be able to celebrate with the whole family.

This sh!t has got to stop! The hell with suicides, overdoses, critical operations denied. These lives DON’T matter.
I honestly dont know why theyre doing this. Just as in the US, though, I think it has a lot more to do with politics than with health.
FWIW, this may not have anything to do with WuFlu.
WuFlu might be an excuse that would panic the population a whole lot less than the real reason for the lockdown.
Isn’t that how it started here?
Just give us a couple of weeks.
Six months later...
Oh brother...
Maybe. We are living in strange times
I guess Israel has no food deserts.
I'm a twenty minute ride from the nearest grocery. Guess I'll lose weight :)

Before it got to the U.S., France, Britain, Italy and Spain went under lockdowns more severe than have occurred in most U.S. states. Early on, world leaders were told something about the Wuhan/CCP virus potential to kill millions, something scary enough for them to sacrifice their nations’ economies. Woodward’s so-called devastating revelation was that President Trump did not scare Americans enough. At some point, who knows when, we’re going to find out what they were told. I’d kind of like to know.
Given it’s Israel, I have a hard time believing WuFlu would freak them out.
“Israel to impose new nationwide lockdown as Covid-19 surges”
The tightening of measures marks the second time Israel is being plunged into a lockdown, after a lengthy shutdown in the spring. That lockdown is credited with having brought down what were much lower infection numbers, but it wreaked havoc on the countrys economy, sending unemployment skyrocketing.
The lockdown will remain in place for at least three weeks, at which point officials are expected to relax measures if numbers are seen declining. Israelis typically hold large family gatherings and pack synagogues during the important fast of Yom Kippur, settings that officials feared could trigger new outbreaks.
Israel has had more than 150,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and more than 1,100 deaths. Given its population of 9 million, the country now has one of the worlds worst outbreaks. It is now seeing more than 4,000 daily cases of the virus.

I’m still wondering if this is really about WuFlu.
I bet there are a whole lotta Islamists very irate about recent peace agreements.
Israeli germophobia is out of control. Doing more damage than the Muslims.

Israeli Deep State may be worse than Americas. Its an attempt to destroy Netanyahu and inflame hate against religious Jews.
Trump actually let Fauci scare people too much. And 90% of the scary “statistics” now appear to be wrong anyway.
Israel had been doing fine, but has had a rise in positive diagnoses (because they do obsessive testing). Israelis are not dropping dead in the streets. However, there as here, the approach has to do with politics.
This has been under debate in Israel for several weeks and was defeated a couple of weeks ago because people want to get back to work and school.
As for Europe, Spain and Italy had severe lockdowns and their death rate was higher than the US. The other countries, less so...except for GB, which now has a very low rate - but Boris Johnson has for some reason decided to shut down again for an indefinite period of time. It’s all politics.
This is nuts. I think everybody, including Trump, realizes it.
That’s possible, but the agitation for a new lockdown has been going on for several weeks and appears to be entirely political. It seems that they had to vote on the order in the Knesset, and it was consistently losing, but somehow they got it through this time.
I don’t know a huge amount about Israeli politics, so I’m not even sure what the sides are. But I honestly don’t think there’s anything else behind it, or they would have acted more rapidly.
The final decision was made by the Netanyahu cabinet not the Knesset.

Boris Johnson has for some reason decided to shut down again for an indefinite period of time. Its all politics.
However, for what it’s worth, it has not gone away with the warmer weather as many speculated in the spring. In my local area, small town and rural, deaths and infections are still on the rise. Most deaths in 7090 age group, but since I find myself in that age group I don’t find that comforting!
The local college which opened a couple of weeks ago has maybe 10 active cases amongst students who are now isolated in what could be called a plague dorm. Since they’re young, they’ll likely weather the storm just fine.
