The 11th Circuit has ruled en banc that Florida can require people with a past felony conviction to pay off all fines and fees before they can get their right to vote back
THE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE ELEVENTH CIRCUIT ^ | 09/11/2020

Posted on 09/11/2020 11:37:05 AM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

WILLIAM PRYOR, Chief Judge:

Florida has long followed the common practice of excluding those who commit serious crimes from voting. But in 2018, the people of Florida approved a historic amendment to their state constitution to restore the voting rights of thousands of convicted felons. They imposed only one condition: before regaining the right to vote, felons must complete all the terms of their criminal sentences, including imprisonment, probation, and payment of any fines, fees, costs, andrestitution.

If nearly all the refused voters are black then it will be an indirect poll tax. BLM supporter Obama judges don’t like that.

Mitigated a defeat somewhat, anyway.
I wonder if Soros will show up to pay the fines and restitution?

“I wonder if Soros will show up to pay the fines and restitution?”

Lebron James already pledge $100k. But the restitution, fees, fines probably totals hundreds of millions if not billions.

They also must satisfy all terms of their sentencing including probation and any forms of restitution to their victims.

Two years suspended sentence and 300K fine. That should fix the problem.

no brainer decision - you have to pay off your debt to society to be considered to be rehabilitated. Debt means jail time AND fines. Derp.

In FL felons who served their sentences were always allowed to petition the courts to have their voting rights restored. And depending on the nature of the crimes and if they TRULY get their act together and turn their lives around they were convicted of, can even ask a court to allow them to possess firearms. It means jumping through a few hoops bit it can be done.

Having been a parole officer in AZ, I know that in our state ex-felons, even after paying their debt to society, had to petition to have their civil rights restored. That is exactly what it was called. And that included the right to vote. There was nothing automatic about it.

Black or white they need to pay their fines and meet their responsibilities.

And the black community?

The black community needs to care MORE about victims of black criminals (usually black men, women and children) and care LESS about black criminals. This glorification of black criminals is a hangover from the 60's ... It has no place in our time.

The more that butt-ugly jerk pays out money to support criminals, the more he proves how stupid he is.

Nice! Dem registration advantage down to about 187,000 (calculating daily from 67 County websites) and dropping daily. Registration closes October 5th. Dem registration advantage was about 700,000 in 2008, about 550,000 in 2012 and about 330,000 in 2016. We will soon reach registration parity (simply incredible) - Lawton Chiles must be rolling over in his grave.

They’re not constitutionally required to restore voting rights at all.
