Four Houston police officers were fired Thursday after a months-long investigation of a fatal shooting found that they were "objectively unreasonable" in discharging 21 rounds at a man in distress.
On April 21 at around 9 p.m., multiple officers responded to several 911 calls about a man who was running through highway traffic.
Officers approached Nicolas Chavez, 27, in a parking lot, where he was running while holding a metal object, police said. During a roughly 15-minute interaction, officers shot Chavez with stun guns and bean bags while attempting to "stop him from harming himself," Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said in a video compilation of the body-camera footage that was also released Thursday.
Throughout the incident, five officers fired 24 rounds at Chavez, Acevedo said at an at-times emotional press briefing Thursday. Three of those shots were found to be "objectionably reasonable," while the final barrage of 21 shots by four officers was not, he said, because Chavez "was at his greatest level of incapacitation."
Acevedo detailed that before the 21 shots in question, police officers had shot Chavez more than once, discharged five cartridges of stun guns and deployed six bean bags.

Reminds me of the story where four cops were holding a man on the ground and then this female cop runs up and shoots the guy on the ground in the head killing him.
Big cities are run by corrupt Democrat scum. Run away.
Hate much?
What a misleading headline. Ones first impression is that cops unloaded on him with regular handguns 21 times.
In fact, they were shooting him with tasers and bean-bags! Next up for Houston PD - Nerf Guns!
When Harris County deputies are ‘fired’ the go to HPD.
This happened in Dallas.
More than once it’s happened.
Face it, Police should be retrained and held accountable.
They are trained that anyone within 20 feet (whether they hold a weapon or not) is a danger to their lives, because the person can close the distance in just a second or two...
They need to quit accepting cowards and bullies and stop training shoot first.
FACTS.
That does not mean there are MANY, MOST cops who are great. It means the system has failed us in hiring and training.
Baddest man in the whole damn town.
If they’d found him in a lake wrapped in chains they would have said he was trying to steal more chains than he could swim with.
To clarify, I meant the police were victims of a lynching; fired without a trial; guilty and not allowed to plead their case.
What the heck does”objectionably reasonable” Mean ? Either say it was ok or not. Please !
Gotcha, thanks for the reply.
But wait! The perp wasn’t black. Was this just target practice? < /sarc >
In the old days, FOUR cops would billy club him down, take his “metal object”, cuff/hog tie him, and toss him in the paddy wagon. On the morning after, the perp would still be alive, and the cops would still have a job, there would be no rioting if the perp was black, and the vast majority of people would still support the cops.
Sounds strange
Correct. First they shot him with tasers and bean bags. Then they shot him 24 times.
Kept that lie going as long as he could.
Well they had to stop him from harming himself.
Acevedo is a pandering sleeze. I remember his boneheaded comments after the Pecan Park raid where two innocent civilians were killed.
Has that “investigation” been finished yet?
So the police should have waited for the Social worker to appear with the bouquet of flowers?
Seems like this would have been a good time for an application of a Bolo Wrap gun.
