The Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that expands the state marriage statute to allow citizens to perform marriages.
Current state laws show that a religious leader, judge or mayor has the ability to marry people.
Representative Larry Farnese sponsored Senate Bill 833 that would allow citizens to perform marriage ceremonies after taking 120 hours of education on planning and performing civil ceremonies. This move is aimed at creating more flexibility for couples amid the COVID-19 pandemic who are having less traditional weddings.
Pennsylvanias marriage statute is extremely limited in who may perform these ceremonies, and there are even fewer options for people who wish to have ceremonies outside traditional institutions, Farnese said. At this time, where outside and scaled-back ceremonies are a necessity, providing this flexibility for couples wishing to marry in Pennsylvania is even more important.
The bill also allows more members within religious institutions to be able to perform these ceremonies.

There was little opposition for the bill and it is slated for full Senate consideration.
The Rev. Dai Morgan, executive director for the Pa. Council of Churches, said hes not opposed to the bill but said it was an indication that we as a society are moving away from religious influence.
This also seems to be an indication of our general culture moving away from faith-based church or religious influence, he said. We are quickly becoming a culture thats forgotten what the faith community is about.

120 hours of indoctrination on the blessings of gay unions?
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
Taking a cue from some Governors, the head of the PA Council of Churches declares his entity to be "non-essential"

is performing marriages an issue in Pennsylvania???
A Justice of the Peace has traditionally had the right to preside over civil marriage ceremonies.
However. in the the Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, and some other Christian Churches, Marriage is a Sacrament or Holy Mystery. Weddings must take place in the Church, presided over by a Priest or in some cases a Bishop!! Usually, they also require the presence of the Faithful!
No “120 hours of education on planning and performing civil ceremonies” can take the place of that!! And “gay” “unions” are completely bogus and grotesque!!!!
Given that the US marriage rate has hit lows unseen since records started being kept, it appears that .gov needs as.many hands on deck to keep the family court/divorce industry off life support.
Want to help marriages? Send no-fault divorce to the dustbin of history.
As long as there is a written contractual relationship filed with the County Clerk’s office, what’s the big deal?
The Church is Essential! No Salvation outside the Church!!!! (Cyprian of Carthage, among others.)
Hell, we did that when we were kids. We also gave out communion using the infamous NECCO wafers.
I can well imagine that the 120 hours of "training" will be tilted far to the LGBTQ agenda to indocrinate the normalcy of DIY dickectomies (what Dr. Richard did to become Dr. "Rachel".
Governor Tommie and the Trannie belong in a circus freak show.
This will be much easier than 120 hours of education.

Probably next to none.
As a matter of fact, how many folks do you know even attend church any more ???
Probably almost none, except for maybe a few of the more elderly.
Watching the rioters and violent protesters in the streets for a couple months now, and seeing that most of them are young adults, teens, even pre-teens, I'll bet that 99.9% of them or more don't belong to a church nor do they participate in any church or temple activities at all.
Today, we're surrounded by both a contemporary generation AND a younger generation who are mostly nihilistic, even anti-religion...and, I fear it won't be getting much better in our lifetime. The ramifications of all this are not pretty.
Leni
Spot on, Leni.
We are seeing the fruits of at least two, possibly three generations indoctrinated by government schools into “values clarrification” and moral relativism.
And then our CCP-paranoid Governors close every last vestige of moral fiber in our communities for months on end.
Strip away the moral underpinnings and the results are Minneapolis, Kenosha, Seattle, Portland, etc, etc.
More crap for us PA’ers, which isn’t going to go, or end well.
and which church are you speaking of?
I am sure the 120 hours of “education” will not be provided for free.
Growing-up in this mobbed-up state has taught me to ALWAYS look for the kickback.
The Holy Orthodox Church, of which Cyprian of Carthage was a Bishop!!!!

The Roman Catholic Church says the same thing, however.
And both are wrong. There will be many Christians in heaven that belong to neither organization
That’s up to God, as usual.
But if the Orthodox Church did not exist, there would be no salvation!!!!
